Rick's Shunkmodels 1/48 HH-60J USCG Jayhawk

This build will start in couple days or so . I got my shopping list of colors to pick up . The rivets are very lite . I will use my rivet tool to re-rivet areas or the whole bird. There will be scratch build items alone the way . Also Eduard Photo etch exterior kit for USCG 1/48 scale

Here some photo's I took earlier today .

I pick up a summer cold . Not feeling good .

Thank you

Rick

Below is a photo . I need to build 2 cargo seats . ..
I never done this before .

This will be my process
1.. Use the seats i have as a reference for size
2 Build the frame out of round plastic . or get brass tubes and epoxy them . I dont have solder eqe . \
3. the seats . I was going to roll out mulliput , like dough breard .
Then form the seat . use sandpaper to form the texture .
4 let that dry .
5 primer and paint

Thanks Rick

Today is my first home scratch build . I'm working on one seat rail frame . I hope to have the backing plate ( I guess thats what you call it ?) built tonight . Tomorrow apply Mulliput .

Looks good so far .If this goes good , 3 more seats need built .

I have one ?

Mulliput . If i form it as the cushion .

Do I place it on the rail frame ? If so does it glue itself to the fram

Or do I form it , Set it to side . let dry . super glue it to the frame ?

Thanks

Rick

Rick,

This is a lovely bit of scratch building. I am very impressed. The seats and all of the equipment look great. The rope is fine. It is too large for hauling people, but about the right size for lashing ships/boats together; just depends on its use. No sweat, it provides interest. Really enjoying this build so far.

Yes you are correct . The rope is way to big . That maybe deleted or resized ..

As I see more photos , the ropes are in a locker out of the way . That may be deleted from the project..

I tell you this , the back area is a busy place in the helicopter ..

Yes, it has been my experience that the back of a helicopter is a very busy place. Sometimes busy good; sometimes busy bad; never dull though. I would leave the rope though. It looks nice, you went to the effort, and it provides interest.

Interesting build Rick, I've had my sights on this kit for a few months and plan to pick on up from the Nat's. Would you advise the Eduard set?

I contacted Cobra to see if he would ship to the UK but he said he has so much grief from the UK tax/customs he has stopped dealing with the UK, great shame as his stuff is great for us Modellers of US helicopters.

Anyway will follow your build with interest.

Cheers the Woo
