Flankerman
Just to whet your appetite, here are some of my pics of Il-62's taken at various times at Moscow's Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports.... This one named Natalia of VIM Airlines... Julia.... Galina.... This one from Vnukovo..... Domo..... Vnukovo... This gutted one was being stormed by FSB troops as it was towed along the ramp - during a security exercise..... at Domodedovo. I have a few more ..... shout if you want them. Flankerman
There was a whole graveyard of Il-62's at Domodedovo in 2009 - hulks of sad-looking Classics waiting for the breakers torch.... Note the gravel 'hardstandings'.... This immaculate example was taken from a moving mini bus at Chkalovsky AFB ........... China Airlines example at Xiaotangshan..... Jennings Heilig
That CAAC bird is a plain old Il-62, vs. a -62M. I'm *really* hoping someone will step up to the plate and do a conversion to the early Il-62 with the NK-8 engines. There are several I'd like to do. garryrussell
I never understood why when Russia went to RA- it is not painted as PA- as in CCCP- really being SSSR-
upnorth
I never understood why when Russia went to RA- it is not painted as PA- as in CCCP- really being SSSR- Partly, that's because English is the lingua franca of aviation and using a consistent alphabet makes sure there are no confusions about the aircraft's identity when it crosses borders or the crew communicates with the ground. Also, the civil register code prefixes on an aircraft do not have to bear any spelling similarity to the country they are assigned to. "OK" Still is used by the Czech Republic "OM" Was taken by Slovakia after the old Czechoslovakia split "VH" Is Australia's code Then there are some registrations with numbers involved "9A" Is the Croatian civil code prefix "6Y" Is Jamaica's prefix "4X" Is Israel
