Mike100
Sorry guys but yes I'm doing another Mini Cooper lol The Tamiya Racing Cooper is almost finished just waiting for a few bits to dry so thought I'd make a start on my next project of what probably has to be one of the more Famous Mini Coopers . It's gonna be quite interesting seeing how the Tamiya and Revell kits compare doing them back to back like this . Anyway I've given all the parts a good wash and started having a dry run to see how good the fit of the parts are . Mike100
Got some of the body parts preped and in primer yesterday so I'm hoping to wet sand and paint them this weekend . I've started work on the engine but haven't taken any pics of that so far .

chrisrope
Like it :) If I can offer any advice it's to just be careful the grey primer doesn't make the red topcoat too dark. Red should ideally go over white (or yellow is supposedly best) to keep it the intended shade. Cheers Chris
roymattblack
Ditto the above.... Red over any kind of dark primer is a real no-no, unless you are aiming for a dark maroon/brown-ish red....... Lovely work so far though. Roy. Mike100
thanks for the advise chaps but not to worry I put a red base coat down first then on with the top coat . I've just done the under side and inner wings this evening 😉

mbdesignart
This is coming together nicely. Brings back memories of my first original, Mini, sadly not a Cooper. What fun I had with my brother respraying it in the garage and being overcome by fumes. Heath & Safety, pah!
heloman1
Great progress, it looks like a nice litle kit, how does it compare with the Tamiya kit? Colin

Mike100
There's no clear on it yet it's just paint 😉 Comparing the kit to the Tamiya so far I'd say Tamiya is a lot closer to the real size and shaped of the parts I know Minis inside out I raced them for 6 years and I'm a car mechanic by trade so know how they should look . The Revell the body has some mould lines on the body so there's more prep involved before painting that the Tamiya however the Revell has more decals for detail but it's early days yet .

Interesting that you are building both Tamiya and Revell and also know the real subject well. I have a Mini project growing in my mind since a few years that I must eventually realise, where I need the engine, transmission and front suspension parts - actually all the chassis and mechanics I think - to be represented and built as close to the real thing as possible to aid my conversion. Now that the Revell kit has popped up, which do I chose? Good work so far, keep going.
Mike100
Hi all I've been very busy with other things for the last 4weeks or so and not had any time to get anything done but have managed to get back to it this last couple of evenings . Made a little more progress but not much .

RRFAN
I love this build, I love this car. Why? In my youth I was very interested in the Monte Carlo Rally. As there was no television coverage in them days, we had to make do with what the newspapers printed. And every morning I rushed out to get the paper to see the latest news on the rally. The Mini's winning was something that made my day, every day. My father had an Austin Seven, I was ever so proud. Gonna follow this build.

Mike100
Thanks for the replies fellas . That would be great to see some pics of it I've looked around but can't find many of the interior and engine bay etc . I'm pleased with the paint job but with out blowing my own trumpet part of me is telling me it's to good a paint job for a rally car of the 1960s I'm thinking it may look good weathered to look like it's just finished a stage of the rally but I don't have the guts to try and do this as I've never done it before
