kingpin141
Hello everyone. I'm making this dio (I've yet to think of a name) to auction for charity. To an audience consisting almost entirely ofex-forces. So, no pressure then. I'm already a fair way through it so i'll let the pics do most of the talking. It's an Apache mid Helfire launch flying very very low over a Viking fording irrigation ditch with a mortar round going off in the water. The Apache is Revels 1/48 and its pants. I'm not impressed with the fit. Nothings tights. Plus i've had nowt but problems all caused by me. I tidied me shed and managed to lose a load of bits. this made me unhappy. I've had to scratch build a new cannon and nose sensor. Here is from starting it to now. Next up is the Viking. A resin and white metal kit off ebay. The only changes i've made are jerry cans strapped to the back, some packs under scrim on the roof and some thin clear packaging cut to shape, painted black on the back and used for the windows. The Viking is fording at speed so it is hitting the water with some force. For the water i used clear silicone sealant with a few drops of paint in it. One smooth layer for the base. then a darker layer, shaped with a lollipop stick, formed into the bow wave and wake. Over that some clear silicone to give it a more liquidy look . I used the same technique over a piece of dowel for the explosion. Finally this is my proof of concept for the Helfire launch, It's cotton wool wrapped round a piece of wire. I'm going to get some pipecleaners for the final version. The cotton wool will stick to the bristles making shaping it much easier.
kingpin141
I've been busy the last few days so not a lot done. Just refining the Hellfire launch. I got some tapered pipe cleaners from a local tobacconist. I dabbed red and yellow on one end and worked them in to a nice orange for the rocket motor. The noses of the missiles are Vallejo smoke over natural steel for the seeker head. The cotton wool sticks to the bristles really well and is sooooo much easier to work with.

kingpin141
Some pics of the almost completed dio. Just need to build a frame for it to sit in and titivate things a bit. Unfortunately the stick anything glue I used to hold the sides on with has softened the plastic, and stuck it incredibly well, so it won't be coming off anytime soon.
