SleeperService
Hi All What do you use to make a female vacform mould please? I want drop tanks and similar and the guys at the dental laboratory will mould them if I make the mould. If it works then I'd like to start more complex things later. CarLos
The proper material is an acrylic resin mixed with aluminium powder to dissipate the heat; But for small items plaster will do, and you can do it at home using the vacuum cleaner. Unless you are asking about the material for the master? Here you can use anything you have access to, depending also on the tools you have. I've used all sorts of wood (even balsa) finished with cyano glue or varnish, styrene, resin... Carlos
Black Knight
As Carlos says, also polymer clay, aka FIMO or Sculpey. Easily shaped, then cooked at 130 degrees, Its then [moderately] heat proof, it'll take the temperatures needed for vac forming.
SleeperService
Thanks for the fast and helpful replies. I'll go and see them tomorrow with Chocolate hobnobs in hand to get something set up. As I work with machine tools I'm getting the master spun up in mild steel, brilliant but rather heavy for the model's undercarriage....
