I cant fly buy would hate to see this BoB vet go to the states, that would be a real shame. Paul Alan Bardell
Watched R4118, today at the Victory show in Cosby Leicestershire - gave a great display. A real BoB combat veteran , lets hope she stays in the UK. The show is also on Tomorrow, and well worth a visit.
Truro Model Builder
There could be a case here for BBMF to sell one of their two Spitfire PR.19s to raise money to buy R4118 for the Flight... I wonder if it has been considered.
thomastmcc
Isn't this being sold in the USA already ? If it's a us company selling it ?

I think 'Platinum Fighters' just sell warbirds for people, they have had stuff from all over the world advertised before. T7 what a great idea, get rid of a Spitfire and have a real BoB vet in the BBMF, kinda makes sense Edited September 10, 2014 by Skids
Truro Model Builder
While I like the PR.19 and think it is the most graceful of all Spitfires (I know, heresy to some) and believe there should be one in the BBMF to represent the work of the PR units, having two is probably something of an awkward luxury as it does drastically limit the options when it comes to repainting (blue, blue/MS grey, or silver). To have a second BoB veteran alongside P7350 -as well as a third Hurricane- on the books would be fantastic.

viscount806x
But, do the 'Men From The Ministry' read Britmodeller forums?
XV107
There's at least one senior RAF officer who is a personal friend of the Vachers, and I imagine that he will be aware of the sale and could well be making asides about the BBMF to other senior RAF officers... Truro Model Builder
I would suggest that a fast track bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund could be made to bridge the difference in the sale price between R4118 and a PR.19. R4118's history is significant enough to make a case, and perhaps it is something that should indeed be 'saved for the nation'.

Although something tells me you probably mean £2,500 000.00 On a related note, my best friends' wife is a direct relative of Bunny Currant. She has known of my interest in WW2 aviation for many years and the first time she told me was the day he passed away when she sent me a message and the photo of him in the R4118 cockpit you see in the above link. Needless to say I told her it was a little disappointing that knowing this, and with her visiting him regularly, she never told me when I may have had the opportunity to meet him, prior to his death. Skids
Sorry missed of a 0 which makes a huge difference. Off to buy a lottery ticket, If I win R4118 stays in this country, where it belongs. I would have thought the BBMF would want this flying with them. Has to be one of the most significant Hurricanes out there. But I imagine that with cuts etc that it may not seem that important to some.
upnorth
I remember seeing that one here in the Czech Republic a few years ago. It did some formation flying with a Tornado F.3 at the latter's last public performance in continental Europe before the type was retired. I had a small chat with the pilot and was told that the plane was around 60% original components. For what it represents historically in both actions and present completeness, it would be a shame to see it leave Britain. XV107
Thinking about it, the significance of R4118 is such that it might be subject to a block on any overseas sale in the manner that artwork (there is, of course a possible debate as to whether a Hurricane is a piece of art anyway [the debate being down to philistines not seeing it that way...], but let's ignore that for a moment), which would either give time for a rival bid or... ... for Ewan MacGregor to buy it. Isn't he an avowed Hurricane nut?
