SaintsPhil
This is my first foray into the world of Armoured vehicles, well vehicles technically I guess.... This is the Meng kit of the 'Pickup' with a ZPU-1 mounted in the back. The kit is cracking and I got it at the bargain price of £15 from T7 models while on holiday in Cornwall last month. Unusually for me I cracked straight on and built it. I added an addition figure, from Takom, with a different head, plus some resin ammo crates an AK-47 and RPG to liven it up a bit. I also had a go at making a base. This is a cheap picture frame I had kicking about, plus a base from left over backing panel from a kitchen cupboard! I covered that in house filler and painted it to represent the side of a highway somewhere in Syria. I also added a Syrian rebel flag to the roof, mainly as I made a mess of attempting some chipping on the roof! Painted with vallejo paints, which I don't normally use and weathered with some True earth filters (which I'm still trying to get to grips with) and AK pigments. Enough waffle here's the pics, sorry about quality, taken with iPad as my camera setup is packed away. Thanks for looking, comments and criticism welcome! Shermaniac
Looks pretty good from her except? There are no footprints for the guy in the sand?? You may also want to un-straighten the roadside as the area is sandy, just to soften it a bit. Other than that Edited September 5, 2014 by Shermaniac
SaintsPhil
Thanks, yes you're right no foot prints, I need to plan the diorama better next time. As for the road edge, the photo I used for inspiration showed it to be a pretty hard demarkation but then I guess that seems unlikely, unless the wind was blowing off the road into the sand... Pete in Lincs
It does do that. You just can't trust sand. Probably filled in the footprints too.

jimbob1974
Nice build. Always wondered what the recoil of a gun like that dose to the vehicle? do the doors start dropping off?
Arachnid
I can recall a newsreel showing one these in action, they put blocks under the wheels, the gunner?had a lenth of rope attached to the trigger, when he fired it the whole truck went about 20 ft in the air and disintrgrated nice model,I got 2 of 'em to build terry
SaintsPhil
Thanks all! I know what you mean about recoil. I wouldn't think the ZPU-1 isn't that bad as mounted on a fairly flimsy frame or wheels when used normally. I've got the the one with the ZPU-2 as well which is pushing it further. Then there's the homemade rocket launchers, those I have seen snaps of with the 'bit of rope' firing mechanism! My next one will be a LWB lands with a recoiless rifle on the back! Technicals african style! Edited September 6, 2014 by SaintsPhil
SeanM
Very nice job Phil all round! Glad to see I managed to inspre someone As for the stability of these vehicles there are some great videos on you-tube. The ZSU-1 at circa 12.7mm and one barrel is not too bad. The ZPU-2 with 2 20mm barrels seels stable if firing straight back but if firing off to the side makes the pick-up rock & roll literally!
SaintsPhil
Cheers Sean, you're build did indeed inspire me to get this kit and build it! You also 'inspired' me to but the one with the ZPU-2...and a landrover...and look at the KFS rocket launcher set...
