elmarriachi
Hello @ all. I want to show you my small oceangoing tug boat "JEAN BART" in scale 1/200 by Heller. The kit is a very old one, was on the market several times as "SAMSON" or "JEAN BART" in the past. The details of the kit are ... "older-style"... not so sharp as new kits, not so detailed, some parts a little bit "oversized".... but all in all ... a good looking kit, a wonderful ship and therefore a nice model as base for some modifications. What I have done? - Cut away of the lower part of the hull... made a waterline version and placed it in the water diorama - Real wooden deck by Artwox instead of the "plastic wooden decks". Therefore transferred the deck scheme on the Artwox wood sheet and cut out.... - Wavebraker and other details on the deck made of PE-parts and plastic material - All railings, ladders, stairways made of PE-parts, parts which I still have left from Merit, Trumpeter, MK.1, Tetra, ..... - Opened all windows and portholes, "glass" made of Micro Cristal Clear - Rigging with LD-Line - Weathering with oil colors ... and now some pictures....: Hope you like my little one... Decebalus
Simply no other word but beautiful! Love the wood decking and overall matt finish. Well done
stevehnz
That looks superb, all it really needs is some funnel detail, but thats a minor thing. Your shots from above look wonderfully realistic with the wood decking. You've sure given me some ideas for my one which I've had squirrelled away for 30+ years now. Steve. elmarriachi
Hi Steve, that's a good idea... some details at the funnel.... let's see if I will find some pictures of the funnel..... but this is a very good idea!!!!!! I think I have missed that or forgotten the funnel .. BRMichael
stevehnz
Hi Michael, I did have a bit of a look on google, both under Jean Bart & Utrecht & I admit its not very easy to see just what the funnel top was like. I did find a picture about half way down this page that appeared to show the front half of the funnel top plated in but the rear half open, maybe a couple of largish exhausts for each main engine & some smaller ones for generators, pumps etc ( 3 or 4 ???) would go some way toward making it look a bit busier & by the look of it hard to prove wrong. A couple of models I saw of JB showed an exhaust stack exiting the funnel top & bent aft but I'm not seeing that in any of the pictures I found, everything seems to be below the line of the funnel top.
