thepureness
Hi peeps. I'm thinking about starting one of my Revell 1/32 Hawks, not sure to go with the red arrows option or the T.1A as I have both. But I keep thinking about the detonation cord decal and how to combat it. I do not ever recall placing a decal over a large clear part before. I don't gloss my clear parts but I do know of dipping them in clear etc. If you have built this kit, how did you go about placing the cord decal on the kit, would love some images
depressed lemur
I have built 3 of these things and appreciate your concern. I tried both possible approaches, decal from the inside, and from the outside. I would say that sticking the thing on the outside is definitely easier as the decal tends to curl up on itself when you try to stick it on the inside. Definitely coat the canopy in Klear before trying to add the decals. Copious amounts of softening solution was used, with a final coat of Klear to seal it. I will try to get picks of the results and put them up later. It would be interesting to see how others have approached this.
thepureness
Anyone else got any tips for approaching this? Would be great if anyone has any pictures
Alan P
I used the kit decals for my Hawk. I made several small cuts (2-3mm) at each end and used Klear as the setting solution. Worked pretty well, but I'd be much happier if there were a laser cut vinyl version available.
thepureness
I've not got access to klear at the moment but I do have some of the humbrol clear, yet to try this on a kit and I think this would be the one to try it on. I have a fear of spraying clear parts with varnish
Alan P
I would be scared of using Humbrol clear again. Twice I've sprayed it, and twice it went white.
TOPGUN-ROB
Take the det cord decal sheet you have to some place where they can make copies on a sticky vinyl sheet and cut it. You can then use that to stick the piece inside the canopy. Here's the look you should be after (look at the Harrier det cord pic): http://flyingleathernecksmodels.com/OrionVinyl.html As you can see, the Harrier det cord was cut from a vinyl sheet that is then simply stuck to the inside of the canopy. This is what I'm doing with my Hawk. Hope this helps Rob P.S. You can purchase the vinyl sheet from Amazon. markjames68
I trimmed of all the excess decal film and used plenty of sol, and put them on the inside, a little fiddly but the can look superb
Shaun
I trimmed of all the excess decal film and used plenty of sol, and put them on the inside, a little fiddly but the can look superb I did the same on my Hawk, trimmed as close as possible to the design and applied to the inside. thepureness
Shaun, did you put any clear or any similar product of the clear parts prior to decals
moaning dolphin
I tried to go for something a bit different. I must admit I didn't complete it but it seemed to be working. I used the kit decal as a template and bent very fine fuse wire to match it, using tape to tack it along the way. The final piece looked ok and I was all set to complete it but had to move country and the model was trashed in the process. If you look a thread # 24 that gives an impression of what I was aiming at. My intention was to tack it in place with a varnish or maybe a white glue. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/68476-my-contribution/page-2 Hope this helps Bob
