taggart
Hi , i've sprayed my latest project with the above and two weeks later it's still not totally dry . It feels hard to the touch but when i handle the kit it feels sticky and i'm leaving very light finger marks on the paint . Has anyone else had this problem with this product ? I shook the bottle well to ensure that it was well mixed before spraying it on . Can anyone recommend any other varnish/lacquer that does not do this please . taggart
I used it as a gloss coat for decaling over a mixed Tamiya metallic's Colin . The kit is a SR-71 Blackbird and has been sprayed with various shades to break up the panels . I had the same trouble a few years ago with there black base (gloss) as well . colin
It may just be a wait it out, put it somewhere warm for a few days to fully harden up.Like you I have used their black base gloss and found that too took quite a while to fully harden up, yes touch dry in minutes but it's just the outer
little-cars
They are normally perfectly OK. It looks like you have got one of a very small batch of alclad varnishes a couple of years ago that had the problem, it could be there are still some around. Breaker
I had the same problem with my Alclad gloss. It's dry now about 3 weeks later.
taggart
Thanks for the replies gents , i have had it sitting in the cupboard for at least a couple of years . I'll leave it till the weekend and see the state of play then , might try a coat or two of clear over the top if it's still not properly dry . Think if it's been in there for a couple of years in a cupboard it still won't be dry for the weekend!
Trenton guy
There was a bad batch as has been said. You can tell if you have a bad one by rubbing it between the thumb and fore finger. The good stuff will dry quickly but the bad batch will remain sticky no matter how long you rub (until you get it off with some thinners). A little late for this model but hopefully in time for others with two to three year old Alclad.
colin
Well the gloss base I used certainly wasn't two years old, even has the plastic round bottle, and that still took a long time to fully dry
taggart
Let's hope by putting a coat of something else over the top it will sort it out . I've spent ages masking and spraying this one up , can't face doing it all again ! Luckily there i are not many decals to go on so I might just get away with it . Will not be using it again though . mixup_1
Thread has worried me a bit, was hoping to try some Alclad for the first time myself soon and using the black gloss as base coat. Don't know what to do now??
