Airfix 1/24 Harrier

Recommended Posts

This was supposed to be my entry for the Harrier GB but because of a last minute paint disaster it didn't make it. Finally finished it tonight, mostly OOB but with extensive scratch building in gear bays and to ejection seat.

Well done on a fine looking Harrier and how many tubes of filler did you go through covering all of those rivets up? I`ve built four of these (3 x SHARS + 1 x GR.1) so can see how much hard work you`ve put in!

I`m a bit puzzled as to why you`ve fitted 4 x SNEB pods and not fitted the inboard tanks as I`d have thought that tanks were a regular fit over the Falklands after the war, most Harriers from the mid 70`s onwards seem to have carried the tanks most of the time?I`m especiallypuzzled because you`ve gone to so much trouble elsewhere to make it look authentic. Take it or leave it,..just my two penneth on what is still a fantastic looking model and if you know something that I don`t about the SNEB`s then fair play,..and I hold my hand up,...,

Cheers

very nicely done - I made the original 1/24 Airfix harrier in 1980 and got myself into a real mess with it as it was out of my league at the time - it is great to see this model and your attention to finite detail is commendable

Thanks for all the positive feedback folks, it's felt like a bit of a marathon getting it something like finished. There are still one or two things to do and I may well put together some drop tanks for those inner pylon but I'm a bit harriered out at the moment. I went for the 4 sneb pods as my favourite gr3 picture is of one face on to the camera firing a salvo from all four, but I agree it's not reflective of the usual operation. As a kit it's not without challenges but I like the way it captures the meaty shoulders and raw power of the real plane. And yes, it is big!

I'll stick some more detail shots up over the weekend.
