USS Skate SSN 578 - new 1/350 scale kit from Micro Mir

Recommended Posts

The postman just delivered this new kit from Hannants - Micro Mir's kit of the US nuclear attack sub USS Skate....

Boxart....

350_Skate_01.jpg

It's a simple kit - with just two injection moulded hull halves....

Another sprue provides the conning tower (sail?), plus the diving planes and periscopes/antenna...

350_Skate_05.jpg

Micro Mir provide a detailed etched-brass part for the hull decking and another etched part for the propellers, mooring cleats, handrails etc - a simple decal sheet of white pennant numbers is included...

350_Skate_06.jpg

The two-sided instruction sheet gives a potted history and painting guiide ...........

.... and on the reverse, construction diagrams......

Micro-Mir are continuing to provide simple, but accurate, additions to their growing 1/350 scale submarine range - and this one neatly completes my collection of US nuclear powered attack submarines.....from Nautilus to Virginia...

Hi the longest SSN was USS Triton @ 447ft with the exception of the stretched Seawolf class USS Jimmy Carter @ 453ft.

Just got the mikromir whiskey thru, nice job keeping up the standard of their releases.

Keep fingers crossed they will fill the gaps, SSN 575 Seawolf would be nice, Triton, Halibut, Tullibee and the Glenard P Lipscomb would finish the roll call of US SSN,s in 1/350.

Hi Ken got my whiskey off ebay, the cheapest is a dual listing one for bids and one for buy it now, seller is linsall77, sends them directly from source paid £12.77 plus postage on the buy it now.

This is where I pick up my mikromir from as they are released.

If theres anything your looking for in particular let me know, ill see what I can do to point you in the right direction.

All the best Chris

Hi Ken love your halibut, she was re designated ssn in 1965 after a major overhaul and refit to a special ops submarine, you can read up on Wikipedia amongst over sources, she tapped soviet phone lines and surveyed the k219 before the glomar explorer tried to raise her, kitted out with saturation diving equipment.

Sergey,

How about some British Royal Navy boats ???

There are some very interesting designs - HMS X.1 with 4 guns in two turrets.

The K-class subs - with funnels !! .... HMS M.1 - with a 12 inch gun - or M.2 with a seaplane hangar.

Or some wartime boats - T, S & V-class subs - or postwar diesel types like A-Class or P-Class.

Hobby Boss have done the French Surcouf and Tamiya the Japanese I-400 - so how about some British subjects for a change ??

I'm sure that we could find some drawings for you............ how detailed do they have to be ???

Regards

Ken
