Mr Color Paints

Right, I am confused. This is a rant/question(s) all rolled into one.

We are all aware of Gunze Mr Color Laquer paints, most people love them, lay down beautifully, very tough and well used throughout the world.

I have always been led to believe they are unavailable in this country as they do not meet strict EU whatevers for paint and chemicals etc. Also something about firms not shipping singular glass containers (paint bottles) boxed sets are ok! There was also some hoo-har over Tamiya paint labelling and the EU not to long ago leading to a severe tamiya shortage but this appears to have been sorted.

If this is the case, why is that it appears that the Mr Color laquer range is increasingly becoming available in it's entirety in Europe, I know the French, Polish and Czech's at least can get them, so I think can the greeks. Since all these countries are members of the EU, what gives? Do they not have the same rules when it comes to paint? Do shipments arrive in these countries by magic carpet rather than the normal ways?

Only this morning I saw an ad that Eduard are now selling Gunze Mr Color paints!?

What gives?

MDC can sell all Mr Color accessories, thinners, surfacers, boxed paint sets but not the individual paints?!" This just seems a little odd. Since the individual paint come in boxes of 6, why does this not count as a boxed set?

I am hoping someone in the know can correct all my complete fabrications (if I've got it totally wrong) or at least confirm that basically we seem to get the butt end of the deal in the UK.

Before anyone also says it, 'why not order from abroad?' Because that is not the point, I know I could probably order them from overseas and pay the postage, customs VAT and duty and the stupidly high payment charge from Fedex/Parcel Force, but I seriously would rather order locally and pay a higher price than getting boned by the couriers for £12 minimum plus the governments bit.

Matt.

I understand your frustration as I think the Mr Color paints are the best I've ever used. I used to get mine from various European sources then from further afield but have given up trying now after being ripped off on a few occasions. I now use the water based acrylics from Gunze, the Mr Hobby range and can safely say that they are every bit as user friendly as the lacquers and are readily available in the UK. The only thing I still order from abroad are the Mr Color clear coats which I prefer to the Mr Hobby versions.

I hope that helps.
