1959 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 Saloon

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Though not perfect Tamiya's 1/24 kit can make an attractive model. IMO these steps need some attention:

  • A good colour choice makes or breaks the model. Search the web for finished models before choosing a colour.

  • The decals for the interior wooden surfaces were rather colourful, and applying them seemed to become very laborious. Therefore I painted these parts as seen on my last picture.

  • The metal transfers for the exterior chrome trim looked too flat and therefore mostly not convincing. I replaced them on the bonnet and on the fenders by bright wire glued into a scribed groove.

  • I built my model when the kit was released (maybe 15 or 20 years ago) at a rather high price. Considering this high price Tamiya's plastic wire wheels were really disppointing. They looked very similar to the massive wheels of the often reissued age-old Aurora/Monogram kits of Aston Martin DB4/Maserati 3500. Once again making real wire wheels was indispensable.

After joining a new truck modeling forum I have decided to stop posting in one of my present forums, so this is my last topic in the Britmodeler Forum. Thanks for your attention during the past months!

Absolutely beautiful model again Jürgen, superb paintjob, & that interior just makes you want to get in & drive!

Sorry to hear you're stopping posting on BM, you've posted some of the best vehicle models I've seen on here.

All the best

What an amazing build and such a fantastic paint job. I love the interior specially the dash.

It is sad that this would be your last post here but I hope you won't closed the doors and I think i speak for everyone when I say we hope to see more of your builds in the future and that just maybe we get lucky that you might post something again here.

All the best

Gobs

Sorry to see you go, but I'm glad to hear it's not because you have stopped modelling. That is one heck of a way to say farewell, a superb (understatement) model.

My Dad had one, wouldn't let me drive it, oddly enough. Your model captures the iconic beastie absolutely beautifully.
