Sea Fury prang

Oh dear. The FAA seem to have bad luck with the type. TF956 had at least one undercarriage incident before it ditched and their previous T.20 wrapped itself around a tree.

The main thing is that the pilot is ok.

Saw her on Saturday at the East Fortune show. Engine sounded lovely. Good display. Very sad to see her like that

The commentator said the two seater had been acquired partly while the single seat was being repaired and to provide training and familiarisation on a tail sitter

What rotten luck but thankfully no injury to the pilot and at the end of the day that's really 99% of what's important

:( Poor bird, but also very happy pilot safe. She's my desktop wallpaper, but I know we'll get to see her flying again. :)

Glad the pilot got out ok,and the damage doesn't look too bad.

Atleast it stayed the right way up which was always a big worry with the Sea Fury....my Late Grandfather pranged acouple during his time with Fleet Air Arm.

His last ever Fury flight ended him having to be cut/dug out of the plane after it flipped trying to land following engine failure

It was an engine flame out and stall, smoke started to pour from the engine. Pilot tried to manually lower the carriage but it was on a low pass over the run way and didn't manage to to get the undercarriage lowered fully.

Apparently single wheeled landings were not recommended on the Sea Fury. On its last flight, TF956 had just this problem and despite many minutes of violent manoeuvring to dislodge the recalcitrant leg, the pilot had no option but to bail out over the Firth of Clyde.

I can only assume the T.20 pranged whilst taxiing otherwise another bailout would have been on the cards.

That's not going to buff out.

Main thing is the pilot is fine, fingers crossed she'll be back in the air soon!

Sea Fury...high performance...wide track...uber developed Focke Wulf with vices...

This one didn't survive either, but a group build is painless (hurry up nobs!)....unfortunately the Dutch pilot in this crash didn't survive, and I'm surprised, that without expert training, there weren't more fatalities thanks to the T Mk.20

Awwwe noooo..... my favourite fighter.... :( Saw this at Duxford recently. It goes with little saying that thankfully the pilot is ok. The aircraft looks very repairable, it's just a question of time and money I guess.

I think the 'Flight' is civilian but with MoD links for the mechanical/servicing aspects. Next time I'm at an airshow I'll stick some cash in the bucket. Hopefully she'll be back in the air soon.

Looks like he did a grand job after the engine packed up. Great video of the forced landing.

A friend of mine used to work for a company that had rebuilt the Centaurus a couple of times. He reckoned some of the problems they were having would have been solved with modern lubricants/techniques but they couldn't persuade the FAA.

Beautiful aeroplane, shame it's going to be out of service for a fair while now.
