Tamiya 1/35 Austin Tilly

Recommended Posts

Bit of a plain jane model but I've got plans to build more of them so I wanted a plain one to start with. I didn't add the yellow classification plate and I didn't give it a vehicle number number either, I've come across pics with these missing so I went that route.

The kit went together beautifully until I attached the windows and wheels. All the windows needed to be sanded and filed, sadly the passenger window snapped in my fingers (it's VERY thin plastic) and had to be replaced by acetate.

The wheels, or to be more precise, the rear axle is a pain in the a**. It fits fine but when you add the wheels you'll find the axle is not lined up with the wheel arches. And I've found it the same on other model pics I've seen on the web, so at least it's not my fault.

The solution was to cut the rear axle from the springs and relocate it, easier said than done. It's only out by about 1mm but the wheel arches are very close to the wheels so it's noticeable.

I then weathered it and I ruined the model :weep: . Luckily you can remove MIG pigments as long as they're not 'fixed' so the disaster was averted with some water and cotton buds.

But I love it, the car's got character and I want to build another 4 of them so if you want to offload your 35th tilly let me know :)

That looks good Neil. It has been painted well and have you put a slight dusting on it to weather the vehicle. It has been nicely painted and the canvas cover is looking very real. as for the MIG pigments, I have done the same, but in my vehicle it had fixed so I had to use other pigments to over ride the mistake. Looks brilliant and look forward to seeing more from you.

Thanks for the comments guys

looks 'cute', if you know what i mean. excellent

Yeah, I know what you mean. The spare wheel on top almost looks like one of those weird ladies' hats that are kind of only half a hat. :)

The Wessex Wyverns formation sign adds a nice splash of colour.

Spot on, exactly the reason why I chose those markings, otherwise it would have been even drabber than it is
