SeanM
And for my next build it's the Meng pick-up with ZU-23-2 gun mounted on the back. A "technical" as seen quite frequently in recent news reports from Libya, Iraq, Syria and other middle-eastern and African conflicts. The gun is a kit in it's own right with lots of parts for something so small: Parts are nicely molded with no flash and very few ejector pin marks. Some parts are extremly fine & fragile but with care can be removed OK from the sprue. Given the level of detail and to ease painting this will be a slow build doing small sub assemblies, painting, joining, more small parts....it does look quite complex but should be fun.
Mr Grumpylee
I'm following again...yes I (might) will behave this time Lee
SeanM
You comment away Lee! Life is far too short to be taken seriously..... The gun is now fully built in a fixed position: went together very well with no issues. Also the I-beam base to sit on the bed of the pickup Will start the actual pick-up this evening. SaintsPhil
Cool! I'll watch this one come together. I normally only build flying things but I'm quite keen to branch out and this might be something to make me...
SeanM
They are great little kits Phil and go together very well. I've previously done the Hi-Lux version and highly recommend them: http://forum.ipmsireland.com/topic/8439526/1/#new The first half of it:http://ipmsireland.com/forum/yaf_postst981_Meng-135-Toyota-Technical.aspx (we had moved forum, sorry) Edited July 30, 2014 by SeanM
SeanM
Base coat of paint on. Still lots of details to pick out in various greens & blacks. Used Matt Humbrol 117 for the gun. The instructions would have you paint the ammo cans the same but for a bit of variety went with Satin 131 for them. Will weather/batter them quite heavily
SeanM
Some more, and slightly better quality pictures. Just a few small bits to add and can then weather it. Mose pictures of the built kit show the tow-bar sticking straight out, but it’s hinged so I figured hanging down over the tailgate of the pick-up would be more realistic. It does mean it looks like it’s sitting funny for these photots but should be OK once fully mounted. Started the pick-up last night but no photos yet. Comes in two colours of plastic. The chassis and bits are black and the body and interior in a sandy sort of colour. Maybe it’s just my eye-sight but it seems harder to position black plastic parts on black plastic…. SaintsPhil
Looks good! Really keen on one now! Had a quick look at the other one you built too looks great!
SeanM
Go for it Phil. I'll definitly be ordering the 3rd one: Landcruiser, like this one, but with the twin ZPU (14.5mm) gun. Similar gun to the version on the Hi-Lux but with the extra barrel. Alternativly Trumpeter do the ZU-23-2 (20mm) on its own (reviews of it are very good!) which you can mount on any truck including a Humvee, Landrover etc. As there are "technicals" there are no hard and fast rules on what is allowed and what's not. Anything goes....makes it fun!
SeanM
A little bit too blue but will be grand when weathered down to sandy dust coated, I hope! And a close up of the boys
SaintsPhil
Cool where are the figures from?
SeanM
The resin figure still on the casting block and holding an RPG is from Mig Productions. The other 3 and the kid are the Master Box "Iraq kit 2" set. All very nice and go together very well. But I do hate trying to paint figures. At least these all have their faces covered which should, in theory, make it easier
SeanM
A better shade of blue: Mixed with the Revell blue, clear gloss, a tiny drop of black and white spirit.

Sgt.Squarehead
Christ on a bike, I bet that thing would bounce around a bit with the twin 23mm going at it hammer & tongs! Great modelling and very topical!
SaintsPhil
Looking great, I could resist no longer and started mine the other evening! I actually got the one with the ZPU1 and the four door cab, but then Creative had this in their sale for £16 posted so that should arrive in the next couple of days! I might start a WIP too, compare notes...
