shood23
As promised this is tamiyas lotus 102b that will be slightly converted into the lotus 102 from 1990. All I am really going to change is the front wing flaps, the decals and the colour. It will be built with next to no engine detail due to i won't be able to make a lamborghini engine out of the judd one from the kit. So here is where i am as of today It's been primed and had a top coat of Tamiya chrome yellow so i needs to sit for a week or so until i can polish it And the main body And now all the little peices where left on the sprue as for once from a model maker thet have moulded it so the attatchments are in places what will be covered once done More will be done to the black bits in the next few days Shaun
heloman1
Looking good so far Shaun, almost the end of true GP's in my opinion... You can't beat Tamiya in a can for a good easy finish. Colin
shood23
I agree Colin tamiya kits and paint are a dream to work with This is where i am upto now, The decals for the body are done and will be glossed tomorrow The decals are made by shunko and i have to say they are very good (touch wood) and they barely needed any help with setting over the contours of the body Shaun
Hugh Jampton
Shaun Looking fantastic, love this livery, as mentioned before it is one of my favorites. Although, I wish you'd slow down, your showing us up! And you've got two on the go. John
heloman1
Hi Shaun, You might want to forgo the glass coat. F1 cars of the ear weren't the toffee apple finish of today. The cars were painted and then the vinyl branding was applied over that. Maybe just a coat of wax polish, Tamiya make that too. Just a thought. shood23
Thanks for the comments guys and Colin my plan with clearing is to give a few very light coats so the decals can still be sealed but not so much so there's still a noticeable bump Shaun
roymattblack
Lovely model. Love your conversion too. I have this kit buried somewhere and you've tempted me to do it the same way. Great stuff so far. Roy.
shood23
Thanks roy coming from you and seeing the builds you do ill take that as high praise Right a small update but significant one Heres one on the floor pan which hasnt been painted even though there were 2 massive injection marks just ahead of where the rear wheels would be So instead of painting i filled them the sanded the marks back and polished the areas up and they look really good And (for me) the most important part, the monocoque. The suspension work has been finished now so I will put a more upto date pic up soon Shaun

shood23
This one is almost there now so here's the penultimate update The wheels are a right pain in the butt there are so many decals in such a small space The rear wing is done and just needs attaching And last but not least the car basically done Shaun Edited August 9, 2014 by shood23

shood23
Right I'm calling this basically done due to only very minor things needed doing The only things needed to fully finish is the tyres need rubbing down to get rid of the seem and the mirrors need the faces put on and a wipe off the get rid of finger prints Shaun Edited August 11, 2014 by shood23
Hugh Jampton
Shaun Love it, one of my favorite liveries from the 80-90's. Great build and done so quickly! Will have to put on my wish list. Regards John
Red 5
Very nice build , I do like the 102 in this colour scheme , sadly my biggest memory of this car is the huge accident Martin Donnelly had at Jerez in 1990 which nearly killed him , great driver who never got the chance to show what he could really do in F1 . shood23
I agree i remember the photos of him laying in the middle of the track still strapped into his seat with half of the car missing in the background, if my memory is as good as i think it is they show the crash in the senna documentary Shaun P.s. just to say it didn't even enter my mind that this was that car from that crash as if it had i would have done it in donnellys setup Edited August 11, 2014 by shood23
Windy37
Great looking build . The Camel colour scheme was so simple but so effective and made cars in that scheme really stand out . Rather like the old Marlboro colour schemes . Today's F1 colour schemes always seem too cluttered in my eyes . Gary .
