shood23
To add to the sudden influx of aston martin kits on here this is the one that you the bm public chose for me to do Just before I start a massive thanks to those who voted in my poll and yes the lotus is not far behind this Right so here's where I'm at, i have had this primed and reprimed about 4 times now due to a few problematic seem lines that even with filling and sanding back still somehow made an appearance once it was primed again so my plan was simple, use the primer as the filler so once the layer was dry i wet flatted it until u could just see the plastic colour coming through then i primed over it again and that seems to have done the job So here is where I am now And the bonnet One thing i could quite grasp as well is that the body plastic was moulded in a metalic gun metal type colour i can only assume that that was done for people that didnt want to paint it, it did look very similar to the james bond car this is based on and with the seem lines just behind the headlight housings and on the rear panels sanded down did look very much like it does in the film once he rolls it a few times. Happy accident or very cunning by tamiya you be the judge Anyway i am about to put it top coat of paint on so ill update tomorrow Shaun

shood23
Good news even though I was gutted that this build has come to an end i can only blame myself for that which I do but out of the goodness of my swmbos heart she ordered a new one today and just told me so the build will start again soon from the start again Shaun
Gobs of Espresso
Woo hoo! Now that's love for you. You'll now have some spare parts too from your damaged kit.
bigbadbadge
Oh no, you have a very nice understanding wife, good luck with the new build. This happened to me with a rather nice 1/72 Roden Sopwith Camel 2F1, I showed it to my son who was then 18 months old and he flattened it with one very quick swipe of his arm/hand. I just got told it was my own fault !!! Of course she was right, as usual ! All the bestChris
shood23
The swmbo says thanks for the niceties and Chris i was told the exact same but it will be started again real soon so watch this space Shaun
AliG
This would be doubly painful for me as if I could achieve a finish like that it would be a fluke, never to be repeated! Note to self, keep fragile kits away from clumsy folks and small children
shood23
Good news the kit finally turned up today, 2 days late, so I should be making a start on it again once the lotus is finished so just to justify the hassle i have been through with this so far i will be putting a full build diary up just so everything is taken care of Alig: those notes were ones that i followed to the letter until i left the door open one day and my little munchkin ventured in to play with daddies gar (to me and you this would be car) Shaun
shood23
Right for the second time here is tamiyas aston martin dbs, so here we go again These are the awful seem lines that plagued my first build for about 2 days until I figured out a way to stop them coming through the paint even after sanding within and inch of my live and filling what i thought may have been a burrow instead of being raised but that didn't work, eventually i found that super glue over the areas then sanding back worked really well so that will save me a lot of time on this go And now its ready for priming, maybe tonight but most probably tomorrow And the interior, i havent really thought what im going to do with it yet but it will hopefully come to me soon Shaun
TheBanker
Hi Shaun - looks like you're off to a good start the second time around. Thanks for the superglue tip- I'm going to try it on my next build! I'm building a DBS myself and have just managed to get the body painted and clear coated. Hopefully we can share construction notes as the build progresses! Am hoping to convert mine to right hand drive but don't know how or where to start- will have to turn to the forum for advice - Good luck with the priming/ painting ! shood23
Thanks and on the work in progress section a thread has been put up recently by roymattblack on how he converted his into rhd it was put up quite recently so should be far from the first page, for me I may just leave it as it is but i am thinking of changing the interior colour from the matt grey they suggest just need to find one that i like though Shaun
shood23
Another update and i decided on my interior colour which by the kids was met with approval It is a tamiya pot paint called buff airbrushed on And here is the body with the base coat on, it looks a little boring at the moment but hopefully the weather stays nice and it should get a layer of gloss on later which will bring it to life Thanks for looking Shaun Edited August 15, 2014 by shood23
Gobs of Espresso
Love that buff colour. I was looking for something like that, now I know what to look for. Thanks!
Aimee'sDad
That interior colour looks great, looks identical to the interior of my car. Alas it's not a Aston Martin though..
shood23
A smallish update for today, its mainly on the interior And the seats roughly how they're going to look Shaun
shood23
So here's today's update The interior is fully done now so before I start messing it up its been put aside And the body, it needs a final coat of clear and polish then i can start building it up This paint doesnt photo that well due to the flakes in it I should really think of making a start on the floor pan and suspension but i really want to see how the body works out first Thanks for looking Shaun
bigbadbadge
Looking good fella, great work, just remember to keep the door shut this time !!! Keep up the good work All the bestChris
shood23
Trust me Chris it's kept in a safe inside a locked room so there's no chance of a repeat performance of little man and the destructor hands Shaun
shood23
For today's update the car has had its (hopefully) final gloss coat and a few bits of the engine bay has been done so here's the progress The car Im really quite pleased with the finish and trust me the pictures dont do it justice Now the top of the engine From a pictuce i saw on the net and as im at a part now where i am just waiting for bits to dry or set from different phases i have desided to detail it with a few wires as per the real thing Thanks for looking Shaun
shood23
So the body panels have been put through a final clear coat and it's last polish and here it is I would just like to say that as i didn't get to this stage with the first one I never understood how much of a pain this colour is to photograph due to it having metallic flakes in the black Anyway hopefully if will blend once more of the bits go on, but here's where it stands now I am not sure on wheather to wax it as well or just leave it now, ill leave it for a couple of days and hopefully i will have more to add Shaun
shood23
Getting near the end with this now Here's where I'm up to, i have added a few wires to the engine as per a picture from Google and it really does add to it I made my mind up at quite an early stage with this that the brakes were not staying black And the interior dry fitted in the car And one last one of it out of the car And now for those fiddly little chrome lines that go around the windows and across the rear bumper, they are a right pita to do but alas I have struggled along with them Really all thats left to do is put the windows and a few p/e parts then its done Thanks for looking Shaun
