AnthonyWan
Hey all, I am interested in building one of Airfix's new Javelin kits - and I was searching around for a cool scheme to do. I discovered that there was some aircraft deployed to Kai Tek in Hong Kong. I can see that the general colors and camo seem to be the same as the others, but I am noticing that there's an extra tail flash and some unique airframe serials. Does anyone do a sheet with Kai Tek Javelin markings? or have some more reference other than these small photos. http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/javelin/full/xh793.jpg -Anthony
JasonC
The aircraft is from 60 Sqn, normally based at Tengah in Singapore. The detachment to Kai Tak was temporary. The fin stripes are the squadron markings. Hannants sell an Xtradecal sheet depicting the CO's aircraft: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X48125 To model the aircraft shown in the photo, you'll need to find the appropriate serials and code letters. Edit: Another aircraft on the same decal sheet has the correct aircraft letter 'J', so that sheet would get you fairly close. Yep, I am sure I can piece together the serials from other sheets. The tailflash was of most concern to me. Can you possible recommend some resin seats for this jet? I heard the kit ones aren't too great! -Anthony
JasonC
For the Javelin FAW.9 you need the Martin Baker Mk.3JS. Neomega make some: http://www.neomega-resin.com/mkiii-js-javelin-faw-9-554-p.asp I think Linden Hill are the US importers. And thanks for your original post. I have a long term plan to model HK based RAF aircraft (and maybe a Ki-27 for good measure!). I wasn't aware until your post that Javelins were there (albeit briefly). Flankerman
And thanks for your original post. I have a long term plan to model HK based RAF aircraft (and maybe a Ki-27 for good measure!). My father was stationed in HK - so we lived there from 1957 - 1960. I can remember going aboard a Short Sunderland that was moored in the bay at RAF Kai Tak - great adventure for an 11-year old!! We used to go swimming at the RAF Kai Tak pool from our school (St Georges) - and I remember driving past lines of DH Venoms. US Navy Martin Marlins landing in the bay - and USAF C-47's and C-54's on the ramp. Great memories..... Ken
bentwaters81tfw
Jason. Drop Julien a PM. He spent some of his formative years in HK. He may have some info on later doings.
