David Womby
I rather like this scheme and am torn between it and a 28 Squadron Venom. Here's a link to the pic: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1224812/. It looks like PRU Blue undersides and underwing tanks but what colour is the wingtip tank? Silver? I assume the can opener is red? What colour is that triangular flash under the windshield? Does anybody have definite colour info., please? David
Dave Fleming
From the high demarcation, I suspect that might be one of the ones in the Light Slate Grey/Medium Sea Grey/PRU Blue scheme (but I'd have to check the old MAM article)
stevehnz
What issue of MAM is that one Dave? I's be keen to have a look at this scheme too. Steve.
Wez
I've never heard of an RAF Venom being camouflaged in anything other than dark sea grey and dark green on the upper surfaces so I'd be interested in that MAM article too! My take on this one would be DSG/DG/PRU Blue, I'd go with silver for the tip tanks and red for the can opener. Is that triangular flash below the windscreen paint or merely the way sunlight is shining through the windscreen? Wez
camper1
Cold War Shield states that this aircraft had no unit markings other than the red can opener on the the tip tanks. The tip tanks are definitely silver. My take on this would be to go with the DSG/DG/PRU blue. Ian

I very much doubt Venoms were painted in Light Slate Grey/Medium Sea Grey.. Some Vampires were of course. Tip tank is silver with red can- opener. The triangular patch? That's the sun shining through the windscreen!

Dave Fleming
All we need now is a decent modern Venom kit
David Womby
All we need now is a decent modern Venom kit True, Dave, but since I am trying NOT to buy and just to use up what's in my stash, I'll make do with the two Aeroclub ones I have stashed and this old Frog FB4 I bought as a built-up and stripped and am refurbishing (and detailing a bit). I added a probe on the port fin, horn balances on elevator, camera pod, cartridge ejector chutes and an Aeroclub canopy. David
Giorgio N
My reply went lost in the server move... anyway the MAM article illustratiing the history of the light slate grey/medium sea grey scheme is in the April 2007 issue. The article mentions that the Venom was listed as one of the types expected to use the scheme however the regulations changed before the first Venoms could reach service and when this happened the scheme was the well known DG/DSG/PRU Blue
