Does anyone produce plan booklets of Cold War soft-skins?

I am looking to have a go at building some Cold War era british softskin/utility vehicles for a diorama and wondered if anyone produced plans for them?

I know Bellona does (used to?) produce nice little booklets of tanks and afv's but would like to find similar for the 1960's and 1970's period, especially tankers, radio trucks and general purpose cargo vehicles.

Hi Mike

Things are pretty thin I'm afraid but there is stuff out there.

The Modern British Army by Terry Gander has 1/76 drawings covering the 70s and eighties.

Individual plans have featured in Tankette the MAFVA magazine over the years, if the back issue isn't available the Information Officer has many, many plans available. A tankette index can be found at the MAFVA website.

The Old Airfix Magazine also ran several articles with plans covering your area of interest. There were also magazine Guides, small hardback books some of which would be of interest. You'll have to make Google your friend there though.

The Bellona plans were accompanied by the Military Vehicle Data range which included some later trucks as well as WW2. These come up on fleabay often enough.

Good luck hunting!

Hi Again

Been to SleeperDad's recently and found a couple of items in his library that you might want to look at;

Stout, Strong & Sturdy The Alvis Stalwart Story ISBN 3-9805216-0-5 with very nice J L Rue drawings

Cold War AFVs ISBN 978-0-8117-0678-0 Loads of George Bradford plans. These are AFVs but there may be others in the series.

He picked both of these up at a recent Steam Fair so they are around.

If there is a particular vehicle you are interested in PM me and I'll see what else he's got.

Cheers

Nick

Hi Nick,

thanks very much for this. I've got a bit bogged down, with my LST for the group build and a review to do, so it slipped off my radar. I'll check and get back to you.

Cheers

Thanks Rotorhead, those books look really good; however they appear to cover the World War 2 period only.

Thanks for the sources though.

cheers

Mike
