North American P-51D Mustang 1:72 **COMPLETE**

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Here is my build for this group build, an Airfix 1:72 scale P-51D Mustang (A01004).

Here is the text from the Airfix website :

The North American P51 Mustang is viewed as one of the iconic American fighters of the Second World War. Designed to an RAF specification, the Mustang was transformed once the Rolls Royce Merlin engine was installed. Its long range and excellent firepower made it a superb escort fighter, able to protect the bombers all the way to Berlin and back. After the war the P51 saw service in Korea and was used by some air arms up until the early 1980s.

Anyway here are the photos.

I will be making a start on this kit in the next couple of days.

Thanks for looking.

Agree with all above.. this kits goes together very easily and is one of the better Airfix kits from its recent offerings (although there are quite a few gems in the airfix line-up these days).

The only hassle I had with mine were large sprue gates around the control column and rear fuselage antenna mast, both of which I broke in the removal process.

Once completed, they really do look like Mustangs - which is what it's all about isn't it!!

Good luck and I'm sure it will turn out beautifully.. Dave

I have made a start on the painting of this kit tonight.

I don't think that I will be taking too many photos of this build as it seems like it will go quite quickly as it is a very simple build, but I will try.

I may not be using all of the correct paint colours as I don't intend to purchase any extra paints, so in some cases I am using whatever I have in my paint stash that looks the closest.

Hi Everyone,

I have completed the construction of this kit today.

All I have left to do is paint the red parts of the tail and the top of the main fuselage before I do the decals, plus any necessary paint touchup.

Anyway here are the photos.

I have removed the propellor assembly now as it wasn't glued into place before i took the above photo.

I have put the kit up on 3 Revell acrylic paint tins so that the landing gear has time to dry solidly before i put it back down on the gear tomorrow as during the photography the rear landing gear collapsed.

Thanks for looking, I should have it done tomorrow after a trip to the cinema.

well done, and a quick job as well!

Reckon you could build a squadron in the time left.......I'll be lucky to have mine painted by then!

Don't forget to put it in the gallery if you haven't already.

That was quick Rick. I wish I could work that fast. Nice job.

Tom.

Thanks guys,

I spent a whole day working on it last weekend in between waiting for things to dry.

I haven't actually completed it yet as I have still got the decals to go on it (hopefully tonight).

As soon as it is done, I will post in the gallery before going back onto other products that are on the go.

Cheers,

Rick
