your help and guidance would be much appreciated on the following topic,

Im currently building a BF109G-10 and a ME262 A-2

both instructions suggest that I paint the undersides RLM Hellblau (light blue) and yet there are several different versions of Hellblau available.

I use VAllejo model air and theres two versions available, 101 or 81?

which is the correct one to use?

thanks guys in advance for your help

Graham

Neither: both your subjects should have the undersurfaces in RLM76, a light blue-grey. The colour suggested by Vallejo for this in the model air range is 046.

101 is suggested for RLM 78, a light blue used for the undersurfaces of aircrafts based in the desert, while 81 is a sand yellow...

Graham,

Why don't you look at the very first pinned thread in this paint topic "RLM comparison chart" and scroll down to see the chart and you can look for yourself to see how MOST hobby colours including, Vallejo, compare to RLM paint chips. Remember the colours depicted are what each of the manufactures state is their version/equivalent of the RLM colour.

The 101colour for RLM 76 is not too bad actually!

Hope this helps?

Although I almost always use Gunze Mr Color/Mr Hobby paints for my Luftwaffe models i did actually use Model Air's version of RLM76 today and it looks like a nice colour for a later war version of the colour, not too blue, quite gray. Trouble is that the Vallejo paint is very soft and even after leaving it all afternoon the paint still rubbed off when I laid it down on a foam matt!

I have now mixed an equivalent colour using Mr Hobby paints and I can guarantee that won't rub off after a few hours!
