Mike100
Hi all ! My Children bought me this kit for Father's Day . I was well pleased and thought I would crack on with it as they can't wait to see it built . I know there's been a good few of these done so I'm sorry if anybody is fed up with seeing another mini . Engine parts are in the process of being painted . Chassis / floor pan is coming along nicely to .

theanorak73
every one i see has the body painted wrong. there is no black on the floor, its all one body shell and painted in the same colour !!!
Séan Pádraig
so what... Anyway, great start to a great kit... I love that it's a Fathers Day present as it makes it special, long after you've built it.
theanorak73
so what... hey, just giving out the facts. see so many people on here pointing out that "this is wrong for that year" or "its the wrong color" etc. not a criticism !!
Mike100
Are now this business of the colour did cross my mind as being wrong . I decided to go with black as It could be underseal maybe or maybe they were back underneath I don't know . Race cars are not undersealed now a days but was that the case in the 60s ! theanorak73
hello mike. i doubt racing cars were undersealed. is under seal flammable ??? rally cars certainly were not. i know underseal was fashionable back then but because of the way the mini shell is put together the underside is body colour. its not a separate chassis like other cars.the subframes would be black, and the rear section of the rear subframe is molded into that models shell. Mike100
It's been a while as I've been busy with other commitments but I've done a little more in the last few days and I'm gonna try and I'm gonna try and keep on it now to get it finished.

Natter
I'm impressed with the gloss you managed on the bodyshell. The underside of my mini wasn't body coloured at all. It was black where the oil leaked from the gearshift input and the rest was a shade of brown known, I believe, as 'rust'.
Mike100
Thanks yep I'm pleased with the finish and the way it's going so far . It's only my 2nd build since returning to the hobby . Lol it's a shame your oil leak didn't start sooner then it would of stopped the rust lol Edited August 3, 2014 by Mike100

Mike100
Made some more progress over the past few evenings with the dash panels etc . It's starting to look like a Mini now and I couldn't resist clipping the body on even though it's nowhere near finish yet to see how it's looking lol . 😊
griffsrw
i think your shine is amazing, great progress. it seems to me that the humble mini is one of the most popular kit for the auto fans to build. only done the tamiya kit myself, but in my opinion it is a cracking kit which can be all modded to suit any ambitious project. just as the real thing is. i would like to do a special saloon racer sometime,

Rob G
I built one of the street versions years ago, almost my first Tamiya kit IIRC. I have one of these started, somewhere in the stash. Got part way through a major cut'n'shut to make it a little more 'track like' and then life sort of got in the way - I'll have to dig it out and see what sort of a dog's breakfast I made of it... Nice work! It's a lovely little kit, and you're doing it proud. RobG Edited August 26, 2014 by Rob G
