Folland Gnat / Ajeet, 1/72, first testshots

Hello,

MPM Production continues to prepare models using the 3D modelling and steel molds. Already the first testshots of the Gnat / Ajeet model demonstrate a visible shift in quality of the surface and overal fit of the parts. Although the original plane is rather small, you will find three frames full of plastic parts in the kit. This is because the model contains quite a big variety of underwing armament and fuel tanks. The fourth frame will contain clear parts of the canopy and camera windows and is still being manufactured. Considering its size, the cockpit offers very detailed interior and a choice of two types of ejection seats. There are also three types of the nose, for the fighter and reconnaissance versions and a nose for the Ajeet.

Very nice, thats quite some payload, did the Ajeet have the same performance engine as the RAF Gnat?

Near enough, yes. Both used versions of the Orpheus with around 4500 lb to 4700 lb thrust. The two seater had the inherent weight disadvantage of being slightly bigger and having two cockpits and pilots, but the single seater was able to carry more weaponry, so they both had similar max take-off weights.
