Arniec
Hi Guys,This will be my build for the GB. It will be a straight from the box one as I think I will not have much time as a co-host.It's the Revell (nah ICM) 1/48 Mustang III. This is a almost copy of the Tamiya version so it won't be to hard to build. The only different thing about this build will be that I will be painting it in 122 Squadron colours of the American volunteer P/O J.N. Thorne that still surved the RAF at that period. I will bee painting the model as the plane he flew when he shot down 2 Fw-190's and damaged one on July the 26th 1944. He was at that time flying from the temporarily airfield B12 in Normandy with the rest of the Sqn. His Mustang (FB180)was that day Struck of Charge after a belly landing on a emergency landing strip. It is also very likely that he shot down a top gun ace (Ernst Wilhelm Reinert) on the 17th of June near Evreux in France.I have been researching him for a while now and I have a sort of band with the man. It was his plane that crashed into the house of my grandparrents neighbours on september the 10th 1944 in the small town of Velp near Arnhem (the Netherlands). He is still burried at the Moscowa cemmitary in Arnhem. I will try to honour him in this way.Cheers, Edited September 17, 2014 by Arniec

I do think that mixing of history into the hobby is one of the main reasons the hobby stays with us as adults and removes them from any sugestion that we are only playing with toys Alistair
stevej60
Glad you have entered with this one Arnold looking forward to see it progress,I picked up tamiyas version for a tenner last week and was going to enter but the aircraft depicted are PK-H and PK-G.I can find photo,s of G wearing stripes but not carrying the kit serials and can,t find any reference to H wearing stripes,I was lucky enough to buy their D version also for a tenner and luckily all three aircraft were operational over the landing period.

PlaStix
It's always nice to see these models where there's a connection for the builder.
Arniec
I have made a start today with the build. The wings are now glued together and I made a start on the cockpit. I will try to put some pictures up tomorrow. Cheers,
Brews
Pity it's the ICM rather than the Monogram that they retooled with recessed panel lines. Never mind, it's still going to look great.
Arniec
The model does look a little bit of a second hand rate model, but if you look more closely you can see some fine detail in it. Here are some pictures. the cockpit sofar the sidewalls and the fuselage closed up temporarely for the looks of it. And at last the wing. That is it from me now. I hope to put some paint on the cockpit this week. Cheers, Edited June 9, 2014 by Arniec
stevej60
Looks a good quality kit so far, very Tamiya like.
goggsy
I guess some of the detail is a tad clunky by modern standards but at least they made the effort. I'm looking forward to seeing this unfold, the C was always my favourite mark of 'stang.

stevej60
Agree with PlaStyx cockpit looks great, seems like a good Kit very similar to the Tamiya Mustang.
Arniec
Agree with PlaStyx cockpit looks great, seems like a good Kit very similar to the Tamiya Mustang. It does look very good on the details, but it is nowhere near a Tamiya kit. When I started I thought why I hadn't pulled out a Tamiya one.Cheers,

I will need to get going with this one, but very bussy to finish two models in 2 different GB's. After that I will have more time (I hope).
