Paul A H
F-35A photo etch detail sets for Italeri kit 1:72 Eduard Italeri's F-35A is one a veritable slew of new kits of Lockheed Martin's 5th generation fighter. The kit looks pretty good, although I'm not a fan of the raised detail in place of proper panel joins as these areas are very smooth on the real thing. In any case, if you own a copy then you will no doubt be pleased to see the release of these upgrade sets from Eduard.F-35A Self-Adhesive Set The first set is divided into two frets. The first is a self-adhesive, pre-painted jobbie that focuses mainly on the cockpit. On this fret are parts for the F-35s large Multi-Functional Display instrument panel and side consoles, as well as new rudder pedals. Harnesses and extra details are included for the kit's ejector seat, which thankfully looks a lot better than that provided in the Fujimi version. On the unpainted fret are parts for the decking behind the pilot's seat, which has to be cut away in order that the replacement parts can be fitted. Parts for the inside of the canopy framing are also included, including the strip which runs cross the span of the canopy on the inside. Also include on this fret are parts for the landing gear, including hydraulic lines, scissor links, wheel hubs and details for the insides of the landing gear doors. The rear compressor blades for the fearsome F-135 engine are also included on the fret. F-35A Interior Set (Zoom) This set contains the first fret from the full interior set reviewed above. If you're happy with the kit's undercarriage (and it looks pretty good to me) then this set might be the more sensible purchase for budget-conscious modellers. Conclusion These are neat sets from Eduard and they will make a positive difference to the basic kit. A little cutting and folding will be required here and there, but the end results should be worth it. If your budget won't stretch to the full sets, then the interior zoom set will make a more than adequate choice.
