ReccePhreak
After I heard they were going to go ahead with the -2P recce version, I was REALLY stoked to get one. After seeing how screwed up the intake & wing root are, I changed my mind. Good thing I'm not one of those people who buy a kit the second it's released, especially at the prices they are now going for. Larry
Homebee
A correction set seems to be progressing nicely by Rieth Creations. I wonder how this talentuous guy will manage the upper wing bulge and fuselage changes. Wish him all the best. To be followed Sources: https://www.riethcreations.com/work-in-progress http://www.network54.com/Forum/47751/message/1506467794/WIP+Teaser.+My+Banshee+is+Pregnant+With+Twins! Quote After participating in a rather, shall we say, "colorful" discussion on Plane Talking about the inaccuracies of the Kitty Hawk 1/48th scale F2H-2/2P Banshee, I decided to "walk the walk and not just talk the talk". I corrected the shape of the jet engine lower wing fairings, the landing gear doors, and I changed the position of the ordinance pylons. KH has the pylons staggered and the inner one is slightly too far outboard. Stay tuned, as I am correcting the upper wing and the intakes next. I plan on making an aftermarket resin correction set if anyone is interested. Michaelwww.riethcreations.com Model Maker V.P. eaglesixfive
Well, I'm in for one. I started hacking the KH kit but gave up and chucked it into the Boxes of Doom. Michael seems to have nailed the intake which gets the wings right as well. That was where I gave up. jpk
I just bought this set from Mike and all I can say is get it. If you want to build your Banshee but have put it off because of the well known issues with the kit, get it. You will be happy with the parts. They fit perfectly and correct the most glaring errors Kitty Hawk made. 1

SleeperService
I don't think it will be OOS for long! Detail and Scale have published a new volume on the Banshee HERE which may be of benefit to owners of the KH kit. Hopefully Part 2 won't be long. I'm told that the contents are pretty good and will help immensely. My correspondent hasn't commented on their review of the KH kit.
jpk
Mike has been having some mold issues but I believe he's worked them out and will be getting more sets available as soon as he can.

I purchased the D&S digital book on the early Banshees and it is pretty good. Hopefully Bert will be releasing the book on the F2H-3/4 Banshee soon. The current issue has not been updated for the Kitty Hawk Banshee even though they say they will update the issue when they review the kit. The kit had not been released at the time of the writing. Well it's been two years since the kit was released. Hey Bert...…

I've been dialing in the 3D printing specs. There is shrinkage to compensate for and the placement, number and size of supports matter. A little filler and primer and it is good to go. The F2H-2N nose will be available for sale soon. V.P.
Homebee
Wow ! I have started 3D scanning, 3D modeling and 3D printing my custom model kits. I had created masters, poured molds and urethane resin casted a correction set for the Kitty Hawk Banshee. There are issues with expansion, contraction, degrading and storage of the molds. Plus, the labor and expense of having to make more molds when they deteriorate. The molds only last for so many castings. There is also the need to vacuum the molds before curing and pressure casting the resin parts. With 3D modeling, the parts can be tweaked over and over until the correct shape is achieved. the 3D scanning allows for the designed parts to 3D printing is the way to go. Once the 3D modeling is done and made into STL files, it is just a matter of loading the file into the 3D printer and pressing the start button. A few hours later and the parts are done. I have been learning the new tech needed for this process and although I miss the custom hand crafting, this is the best and most efficient way to make the models. V.P. Sabrejet
Wouldn't it be easier to 3D-print (or resin cast) the whole kit? Unless the KH kit has been re-released...

Looks like he’s already ~3/4 the way there. I would think the cost of a full kit would probably be less than the cost of what he’s already got plus the cost of a Kitty Hawk kit. It would also be a lot more accurate than anything involving the KH kit, too. Ben

The test prints of the wing came out nice and now it is time to test print the fuselage. The Banshee has some unique shapes like the wing to fuselage and horizontal stabilizer to vertical stab, as did many 1950s US aircraft. It was a time for experimentation. Just about ready to put the kit into production. V.P.

Just about all the parts for the 1/48th scale F2H-2 Banshee are modeled and printed. Now comes the tweaking. I'll need to combine parts like the elevators to horizontal stabilizers (because of thinness and possible warping after curing) and maybe the vertical stab and rudder to the fuselage, which will require a redesign of the vert stab print supports. The test fitting to the KH kit has begun. Stay tuned for more. EDIT: I added a photo of the subassemblies glued together, wheel wells, the engine/flap well, the Vert Stab/Rudder/Hor Stabs/ Elevators V.P. Usual Suspect
Michael Rieth's new 1/48th Scale F2H-2 Banshee 3D Printed Correction set can now be ordered via his website at: https://www.riethcreations.com/product-page/1-48th-scale-f2h-2-banshee-3d-printed-correction-set . Price is USD 60.00. The announcement I received from him also stated that the cast resin correction set that he developed earlier for the Kitty Hawk 1/48 kit has been discontinued, being replaced by the new 3D printed set. Usual Suspect
I ordered Michael Rieth's 3D correction for the 1/48 Kitty Hawk F2H-2 Banshee on 14 Dec and it arrived on 30 Dec - which was quick, given that postage times tend to be longer around Christmas. These are the first 3D printed model parts I've seen "in the flesh": my first impression is that they are remarkably well done. The exterior surfaces are smooth, some of the parts are very complex shapes and some are very thin, but there is no variation in their thickness. No trace of the layering seen in many images of 3D printed items. Nicely packaged too...
