p-26luvr
I am nearly finished making a small diorama featuring a German halftrack. I want to have Jerry can on it that will be used for carrying water rather than fuel. Did the Germans use different colors to show this, or were they in some other way specially marked ? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Carl T
JackG
There was a special jerrycan designed to carry water, but the easiest way to indicate this is painting a bold white cross on the face and obverse. Much more info here: http://sdkfz7.free.fr/ejerrycan.htm regards, Jack
Canuck63
I've got several original Jerrycans in my collection ,and as Jack's rightly pointed out there was a jerrycan that was intended to carry water;it was 100% identical to the one intended to carry fuel but was stamped "wasser".These water cans were usually marked with a white cross in order not to have them accidentally filled with gasoline or diesel fuel.A small red "W" was also often stenciled near the cap, but the easiest and safest way to tell a "wasser" can from a "Kraftstoff" one was the famous white cross.Pictures do exist of these cans having a white "W" stenciled or hand-painted on their front side as well!HTHManny

Nutsabout
Did British jerry cans use the same white cross identification?
