1/48 Lightning nose section pulled by a Snatch Land Rover

Recommended Posts

How'd you make the red intake cover? I know there's probably a technical term for it but I'm dumb! Looks like a perfect fit...

Piece of red plasticard. Used the intake ring as a template. Scribe and cut out. check fit. Find centre of red disc. cut suitable size hole for cone to stick out. handles made from fuse wire. Everything super glued in place. Paint as required. The nose ring and cone are white metal, left over from the Aero club conversion.

What a fantastic build, love the Lightning, but sadly it left us at Doncaster for pastures new a couple of years ago.

XS897, last flew with 5 sqn as AC. Although she will never roar to the sound of Avons, what a survivor she is, landed on her belly, nearly scrapped twice, wings almost cut off with a JCB, nearly became a nose section only, new set of wings fitted at SYAM & now back to sqn service, albeit as a sq. gate guard.

It's now on display at RAF Coningsby with a small belly tank representing an F.3.

One of only a handful of aircraft that have gone full circle-almost!!!😊

Firstly, many thanks Radpoe Spitfire for the up date on the old girl. Glad she is still around.

And a big thank you to everyone else for your very kind comments and hitting the like button.

Is this the way forward to save space ?? Airfix...... what do you think ???

Hmmm, you could be onto something with the space saving idea!!!!

To take it a little further, how's about the concept of larger scale cockpit and nose section kits?

Just imagine for example a 1/12 scale lightning or Hunter cockpit or a 1/16 scale Lancaster or Halifax.

There is some merit or potential in your idea.

P.s. You're more than welcome about the info re XS897, I miss seeing the old girl at Donny, but at least she is safe.

Regards Rad
