BomberBrit
Just finished piecing together the body of my Il-28, unfortunately, the glue has smeared out from the plastic and onto the actual bodywork. Anybody got any quick tips on how to remove it before I get to the painting? Cheers
mossieramm
Depending on how much has smeared and which glue you used, but if you used something like Tamiya liquid cement, I'm afraid only sanding will remove the glue. Make sure to tape the area around the smear so you dont damage the detail. If the plastic is damaged maybe a touch of filler might also be needed. Or if it's just a slight smear, prime the area and see how much is still visible under a coat of paint. Sometimes the most glaring problems dissapear under a coat of paint. Hope this helps. David. Hotel Papa
Yep, that's what wet-n-dry is for. One of the major reasons why raised panel lines have fallen in disregard and rivets are depicted negative, even if they are really mushroom head. The detail gets lost in the sanding process, which often is required to get a neat glued joint. Edited April 24, 2014 by Hotel Papa
BomberBrit
Sanding it is. luckily, it isn't too bad a glue smear. It's noticeable unpainted, but not huge blotches thankfully I'll give it a sand anyway, remove the worst of it before applying the first touch of paint. Thanks for the help guys! Max Headroom
To add to the above, I would also polish out your sanded area. I use a chrome polish paste rubbed in with a lens cleaning cloth to restore the surface. Trevor
