Jay
Came across this short film, enjoy. Quoted from another site "it's from a 70s UK TV series called "Sailor". The full thing is worth the time. The bloke struggling to trap got a "nice" debrief for the TV cameras than apparently was provided a new one free of charge once the cameras had gone..." heloman1
Thanks for posting the link, fantastic footage. I'm glad I was a Jungly with all that iron on the deck... Colin
Longhorn
Deck landings look much nicer (more comfortable) in the Bucc than the Phantom! Looks like the undercarriage is a fair bit softer/has a longer travel.
Nobby57
R09, 1970's...Below decks trying to sleep 'BANG', the worst I heard from my colleague at work, were the cat shots...impossible!!! But he did say, and he's actually shown in this series, in hot climes it was almost comical at times to think that the dear old Ark would judder like 'b******y' trying to get enough speed up to launch the Phantoms. Dad was on her in 62-63 and we all went back on in 67/8 'ish at Pompey...stirring stuff. Thanks for the post...but here's some more. Enjoy! HMS Ark Royal (Official) 'Hands To Flying Stations' (1975) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cALccuPShQc HMS Eagle... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GmedVgbW-A HMS Hermes, Centaur, Victorious... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFzRtOuj5GQ RN of the 1960's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsE9oCdSEEI&list=PL4EA37D3E89608F68 (8 Vid group, not all carriers) So many others out there too, depending of course on your period... But my favourite at the moment... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTR4PF4FjPE (Korean War Group Build current...which carrier do you think I'm focussing on?) Roof Rat
Nobby57 Just to say thanks for adding the film clips, I haven't seen some of these since my training at Culdrose back in 71 (SAH ~ School of Aircraft Handling). The "Hands to Flying Stations" film was made as a replacement for the "Hermes" film, to be use for training and shown at schools as a recruitment aid. Port Watch Flight Deck Crew 1974: you can see their (and mine) "ugly mugs" in the film That's me 2nd left at back (with the wristwatch) Apologies to Jay if I've hi-jacked your thread, hope you find it interesting RR
