exdraken
Had to start on something new, the Hind build unfortunately got a bit stalled in the last 2 months for lack of time. now I hope for something fast and more or less simple! The have had a soft spot for the ALCA since I fist saw it displaying many years ago at Zeltweg airbase in Austria. its slightly long, out of proportion looking nose (reminds me of an anteater somehow, sorry) added to the L-39 airframe with a stronger engine makes it an astonishing sprightly performer, similar to the Italian AMX jet. additionally there was once some talk about Austria acquiring some for the advanced training and light interceptor role, replacing the old Saab 105 twin jets. (no money --> remaining Saabs will be "upgraded" now....) coming back to the model I plan to build! Planet Models released this unique jet last year as a resin model with metal landing gear and some PE for details. 2 marking options are provided, one short lived special and a standard 3 tone grey jet. It represents the single seat attack version with Maverick and Aim-9 Sidewinder capability, the one that ultimately "replaced" Czech Su-25s and Su-22s. Some of them will? be sold to Iraq if everything goes well (for Aero). The models looks very nice, layout is similar to MPM's L-39 plastic injection kit. some pictures of contents mixed with some improvable airshow photos of mine: parts are nicely packed, small PE fret, 2 vacu formed canopies, 2 clear resin tip tank lights, white metal landing gear, decals with correction sheet: ready for cleaning with war soap water: fit seems to be quite good, even 2 location pins are provided for better alignment shape looks very nice to me: cockpit detail could be more and sharper, stick and seat look very nice to me ejection seat and cockpit detail nicely cast wheels: exhaust: 6 pylons for 2 pairs of drop tanks and Sidewinder rails, 1 center line pylon for the included gun pod fast and low: looks to be a fun build! more to follow soon! nice walk around: http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/luc_colin/l-159_alca_walk.htm color instructions and cockpit placement detail could me a bit better... some pictures: http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/l159/Interesting Edited August 25, 2014 by exdraken

exdraken
so,... I cleaned all the parts, sawed off the casting blocks, so far so good. nothing specially challenging here dry fitting seems to be good - not a lot of sanding necessary. the electronic bay hood has a nasty casting block to remove, and the cockpit tub as well, as it has to be removed close to the cockpit floor. some detail painting already started the cockpit itself could be a bit more detailed, but as the canopy is meant to be depicted closed ... the instrument panel and he stick are nicely detailed, as is the ejection seat! (still have to find out which one it is! - the same as in the L-39??? anybody knows?) 4 drop tanks are provided, I did 2 of them. fit was excellent, hardly any sanding required intakes look ok to me: they are handed 3 parts for the cannon pod: pylon, pod and 2 barrels fuselage -w ing joint was a perfect fit on the first side: front fuselage fit looks good: same goes for the rear one nice little kit!!!! Dazzio
Oh very nice a L-159!!! I've got a picture of one of these on my wall in my man-cave. I do want to make a model of this jet (most likely the Czech version). I dunno what it is about this aircraft and the L-39 but they are both fantastic looking aircraft. Then again I think the same of the Hawk 100/127/200. I've never dabbled in resin kits or 1/48 for that matter (far too big for my shelf), but this I could be persuaded. I will be watching this fantastic build of a fantastic aircraft love everything I've seen up until now Kind Regards Dazz

exdraken
Fab! Is the canopy different to that on the L-39? Hi, thanks, for the canopy what I can tell you for sure is that the rear canopy is definitely diferent, as the L-159A is a single seater. The rear transparency is smaller, the transparent area starts further upwards. as for the general form, I don't know. maybe somebody else does? I compared mine with the MPM Albatros kit's vacuform canopy, and there is not a lot of difference visible to my eye, apart from the above mentioned.maybe the Omega shape is a little bit more pronounced ind the ALCA EDIT: rethinking it a bit, I suppose you could use the L-39 canopy for making a L-159B trainer version without too much hassle! maybe I can take picture tomorrow... hope it shows the detail!
