Rickpadwick1801
Hi, After the disaster with my RedBull kit paint, I just want some reassurance that I won't have a problem with another kit. I sprayed my RedBull with humbrol grey primer and Tamiya TS89 paint, but the paint ate through the primer and bubbled up. I used Humbrol primer on my Iron Man mark 3 kit and am planning to paint it with Tamiya Clear Red and Gold Leaf acrylic paints. I just need some reassurance that the tamiya acrylic paint won't attack the primer on this kit like the spray paint did with the red bull kit. Thanks everyone. Roo
was the Humbrol acrylic, enamel or spray? I've never had a problem with Tamiya paints over them myself, but everyone has different experiences. When priming I large areas I now tend to use Halfords plastic primer as it works out cheaper than the Tamiya or Humbrol primer spray and I've never had any problems with it that were not my own fault in one way or another,
Rickpadwick1801
The humbrol primer was spray based and the tamiya acrylic paint is in pots. I will be starting on it in a few days, but wanted to make sure the paint won't react badly with the primer first.
robvulcan
I have never used Humbrols Primer but I use their spray cans all the time and often use one of their matt greys to prime my models. I have used Tamiya with them and never had a problem. But then Tamiya do have alcohol in.
zero
Acrylic over enamel, but never enamel on top of acrylic. Beware humbrol spray cans are not acrylic, they also have a lacquer in them to, this will react with acrylic. If you can get some, klear can be used over any paint, and then when dry any paint can be applied on top as it acts as a barrier seal. However, if in doubt, test first. It worth the extra time Dave
