Filtering paint?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've noticed that 99% of my (many) airbrush woes stem from tiny lumps in the paint- even "brand new" stock..(although who knows how long it's been sitting in a warehouse). Anyone have any suggestions about filtering/straining paint to get the lumps out? ... something not too messy/ time consuming ? cheers, Dave

Hi,

I am not being cheeky when I suggest this, but just make sure your paint is properly thinned. I've been airbrushing for four years now, had many woes, but tiny lumps in the paint is not one of them. I've successfully thinned Vallejo Modelcolor I have had for years, so I doubt your problem has anything to do with long storage in a warehouse.

Best Wishes,

Will

You can buy special paint strainers (try eBay) they are inexpensive and will strain out any lumps or bits in your paint. If you want a cheaper method just use a pair of your girlfriends/wife's nylon stockings, the fine mesh type to strain the paint through. You will be surprised at what sometimes gets filtered out..
