jetboy
As the bit at the top says, how do you go about building, the said machine, well a quick look around the nasa sites, and you can find this, si guess that will have too do?...and it does look like a military vehicle as a starting point,so out with the spares box guess that will do for starters? jetboy
i made these crap wheels a few month ago,for a lunar rover,so i will use these for the teeth/grinding wheels,? so thats a few bits to start with. so im thinking something like this???? maybe, but its got to fit under a automated lander for delivery, make a start, cutting aputure for conveyor belt, and grinder. extra bit of support on might use this or not? in the end ive re instated,a portion of the hull for support, this is where supposedly the conveyor with dust enters the oven section? going to use one of martins resin doodly bobs,as a conveyor support,i think its a hose reel really? in there somewhere give it some undercoat, see what seams are showing,, need to work out the coolant section, and the grinding wheel end?? i,ll do a bit on the conveyor system whilst thinking.. now what does a coolant plant look like, quick reference to the space section,on cooling plants and distillation in deep space section... back to the conveyor,my head hurts.. enough of that, back to the coolant plant section.... so the conveyor goes under there on its way out.. now how the hell am i going to put the grinding wheels at the head of this????? maybe.. very frogs leggy.. measure up some panels for the belt sides and walkway?? still need to work out some things,my head urts... need to raise the height of the control cab.. still need to work this out.........ugger cheers Don

jetboy
stuck a few more bits on,took a few bits off,...stared at it for a while,it did,nt get any better,so ive gone with these additions, hey ho... so starting from here, so chopping a few holes init... so first version, like this.. so trying the backend conveyor.. so sticking some rollers on.. so final bit on,and the base of the coolant plant on looks about right, first prob noticed, its a bit low to get the conveyor out,...could put it on a sled type thing ,could put wheels on for support,or could refigure... cheers Don
jetboy
Well after a bit of delibiration..thought,and trying two or three different ways to attach the grinding head in a realistic manner, ive finally settled on a jcb type, linkage/ hydraulic attachment,...thank uck,im pulling my hair out ,mulling this one over,? so partly assembled the grinding wheel in its housing.. found an attachment block,...one of martins models resin bitsandbobs... cut to fit the pipe....ish so aluminium gun barrel in,now to get it to lower and raise the grinding wheel??? so shorten the barrel going to use a resin at at foot,as the connecting bit...so drilled and tapped that to accept the barrel doesent look too bad, need to build a bit more attachment points and some hydraulic rams, and a happy sat bunny.? cheers .. Don...on the darkside...

SleeperService
To echo that is very impressive, looks more like an Alien Nostramus hold item than anything, so very appropriate I can't believe how fast you've built this Just the right balance between rugged and designed to operate at lower g than Earth normal. I really look forward to the painted item.

jetboy
That is a marvellous build....Your design is way cooler than those concept images! Have you read the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson? no i hav,nt is it worth reading, would much prefer that good historical book "How humans colonized mars" but dont think i,ll ever see that one printed..lol don
Sgt.Squarehead
The trilogy between them paint an interesting picture of how such a colonisation effort might progress, the technology involved is all very plausible by and large, although a few 'novelties' are required to maintain the plot.....Have a look, I think you might enjoy them.
