Scottish Aviation Bulldog

Recommended Posts

Fresh off the bench today is the Airfix 1:72 Scottish Aviation Bulldog that I built for the Training Types GB. This was a fun little build and a trip down memory lane as it was the A/C I flew in my Air Training Corp Days. The kit went together well presenting no problems with the only negative issue being the Tamiya white that really didn't go on well and leaving the surface quite rough. A big thanks to Paul J for providing the roundels to replace the slightly off center kit ones. More info can be found in the WIP.

I have just noticed the nav lights still need to be painted.

Takes me back to my cadet days, very well done, knowing how small this kit is I think you've done a very god job, the paint job doesn't look bad at all.

I think I was lucky that my first air experience flight was in a chipmunk, the majority were in the bulldog and the last one was in the grob tutor. I really enjoyed the bulldog though, it was better being sat next to the pilot so you could see what they did and then try it yourself.

I think I will have to look at getting one to do in 8 AEF colours at cosford which was our usual flying location, although I got to fly with several including 6, 7, 9 and 12 AEF's.

Good build of a very nice little kit!

The Bulldog was used as a primary trainer by the Swedish Air Force, too, with the type apellation SK 61 (SK for 'skol' = school).

I had the good fortune, as a cameraman with Swedish Television at the time, to enjoy two flights with F 5 training wing display pilots rehearsing their fully aerobatic routines. Fun stuff!

Kind regards,

Joachim
