Wessex helicopter weapon platform question

Gentlemen!

It's true that the weapon platform for Wessex HAS.1 commando helicopter has design, different from the late Wessex HU.5? I saw only few poor quality photos of HAS.1 with platforms and I think that they have two weapon suspension units above for FFMG or 2-in rocket launchers and to two bellow for ATGM, but I'm not exactly sure.

Hi Andrey,

I flew in Wessex 1 and 5 in the Far East and the platforms looked exactly the same to me. If I remember correctly, there can be slight changes to how the platforms are fitted, half plate and full plate (which obviously helps with the weight problem). The weapon fit could be just a single machine gun or SS.11 or AS.12 missiles, or even a combination of gun and missiles.

I do not have access to my records at the moment but I will try to dig something out later on. In the meantime, there are plenty of Wessex enthusiasts on this forum who can probably answer your query for you soon.

cheers

Mike

Thanks Mike!

What can you say about this comment from aviastar.org -

alan thompson,

The only two squadrons on hms albion 1962-64 was 845 with Wessex and 846 with Whirlwinds. I was on 845 for the whole of that commission as a Armourer. The Wessex were armed with four .303 browning machine guns, two each side on platforms over the wheels. Also a gpmg mounted in the doorway. We also had in the last year SS 11 missiles one each side...

I have no another evidence of my assumptions, unfortunately... But I am very interested in this theme. Can I ask you other questions?
