capri-schorsch
Hello, here is my newest project i started today.I want to make an iconic german racecar from the beginning 80ths.The BMW M 1 Procar series car in 1/12 scale. So i started to take a deeper look onto my BMW M 1 from Carrera Structo. So i start to remove the body holders inside the body and close the hole for the antenna.Next is to start a picture research of the real car and see what i must correct on the body.I also will do a measurement of the body dimensions and the wheel/tires that come from Carrera. At the moment i dont know how correct their size is or not. This will be an on and off work in progress. Its only for me to fill my lunch time break at work with some modeling stuff. In the meantime my work on the porsche rsr will continue.I hope i become a lot of feedback from you guys?regardsChristian
Pete in Lincs
I always liked the M1. A big gamble for BMW at the time I thought. I will be watching with interest. I saw a Capri 3.1 racer model on ebay & thought of your earlier build!
triumphfan
The RC donor car looks to be a good starting point. Will be watching this project with interest. Steve.
capri-schorsch
Thanks for watching! Yes the BMW M 1 is one of my heros cars from that time. And the RC Donor body is very good, indeed! I looked now through the picture and didnt find any mayor error. I must change the rear lights, because they are a bit too big and the edge all around the car must be also onto the fenders. Some edge smoothing here and some sanding there and thats it.I hope? regards Christian
Séan Pádraig
I was fortunate enough to be driven around Silverstone in the Marlboro liveried Niki Lauder car years ago... truly awesome experience.... I'll be keeping an eye on this build... good luck.
capri-schorsch
Hi,some work was going on with the bmw.You can see on the pics the biggest mistake from my carrera body. The RC model got complete wrong fenders at the back. The rc car runs onto massive rear wheels, but the original got 16" at the front and at the back.Thank god that the tamiya porsche 934wheels are the right size.So i can use this wheels with some changes. But the fenders must be changed at the back.So i made a small mold with putty and remove the fenders and try to construct some new shape.More to come.regardsChristian
capri-schorsch
Today i tried to change the wrong rear fenders. So i make some drills and cut the fenders out. Some piece of ureol was my stencil for the shape and so i cut the fender in parts and put it together with the right rounding. With lot of putty i put it in place.Thats way better than before,i think?Quickly do the other side and tomorrow is sanding time. Thanks!Christian
capri-schorsch
Hi,some new pics from the bmw today. The rear wing was molded. The body got the first layer of priner. Now i can make the fine parts. No more changes to the shape of the body.Thats good enough i think. Some more sanding to some edges and a place for the fuel cap must be made.Thats all for now.regardsChristian
capri-schorsch
World exclusive...........the first BMW M1 Procar Cabriolet! After Martin from a german modellboard and my friend Paolo told me the same,i put the saw in my hands and cur the roof off.I will change the height and took 2mm off. Also the roof lengths will be shorten by 2mm.So the a-pillar will get a wider angle, more correct to the original.I will tomorrow see if this gone work?Cross fingers!regardsChristian
capri-schorsch
before........afterWay better i think. Was not so hard to do.By the way when i got the saw in hands? Is there any other problem who must be solved?Any thoughts from you?regardsChristian
roymattblack
That roof line looks a million times better. Hat off to you good sir! Roy.

theplasticsurgeon
Oh cracking stuff - wishing you a superb result! I remember these from the Procar series in 1979. Sports Coupe with mid engined 3.5l straight 6 engine from the 635CSi (another epic car). Mainly GP drivers The series ran as a prelude to each GP. GP drivers were not permitted to race anything else on GP day, so this series ran on final qualifying day - and was usually more exciting that the GP! I made it to Silverstone for qualifying and the GP days that year - so saw Niki Lauda win the Procar race. Then Clay Reggazoni win the GP in his Williams. Thereafter these cars competed in Group B sports car races like Le Mans. I went to the German GP Hockenheim in 1982, and the evening before, a team turned up at our hotel with an M1 - I'll see if I can find my photos of it. capri-schorsch
Wow,that sounds great. Those days where fantastic. By the way,i think i was also in Hockenheim 82?Or was it 81? The GP where Pironi has his fatal crash in training. I was 10 or 11 these days.Long time ago.
heloman1
Great subject and nice project. I remeber seeing one of these at Kyalami in the 80's.It was being used as the pace car for a Castrol Nine Hour race. The driver ran it off the track one the backside of the curcuit threw up a big cloud of dust and a large cheer from the croud. If memory serves me it was either number 1 or 2 in dark blue/black. I'll follow your build/conversion with interest. Colin

The GP where Pironi has his fatal crash in training. I was 10 or 11 these days.Long time ago. That was the one 1982. Pironi had a colossal crash during wet qualifying. Not fatal - but he never raced a Ferrari again. Very sadly killed in a power boat a few years later. It was also the race where this happened which I know nothing about until I bought a newspaper on the ferry the next day. capri-schorsch
Nice pic from you. Is this car driven by German Harald Ertl? some progress on the M1.beforeafterand from the othersidebeforeafterI was told by Mike from Scaleproduction and from a good friend that the shape from the side is not right. My friend Ralf was at Hockenheim at the Jim Clark Revival and was able to measurement a BMW M1.The original car got a downscaled size of 52-53,5mm from the door to the rear fenders. My car got more than 60mm!So i changed the rear fenders and now its way better than before. This was the last change to the body.Next will be some fine putty and sanding before i make the mold for it.RegardsChristian
Miggers
Mmmm-mmmmm. I love BMW's(run one now)and the old M1 is one of my favorites, proper beast. I remember that crash at Hockenheim too,fisty-cuffs in F1,very entertaining. Proper F1 cars too, none of these droning toy F1's of today.
capri-schorsch
Today i made the tires and dry-fit them to the body.I have looked for the right height and think so it looks fine. The rear wheels need some other shape. They are too deep and should look more than the front rims. This need to be changed.regardsChristian
Hamden
This is turning into another masterpiece Love the attention to detail looking forward to the next instalment Roger
capri-schorsch
Hi,here are the first casting of the wheels.Open up the rims was very easy.Only a sharp tool is needed to shape the back a bit down.Take about 2min.The rear rims shows that i am cheated a bit.The rims are not deep enough after i changed the front look. But it dont matter. The bmw shows his "shoes" only from the outside. At the moment i work on my solution for the suspensions.I try to make it adjustable after the casting in a rough way. Will see if it works at the end.regardsChristian
capri-schorsch
Hi,here are my solution for the suspension.I know it look very rudimentary, but at the end it works like i want it.First a shot from the chassis plate with the mounting points. The lengths is not finished yet.And here are the rough suspension solution.Take a look through the rims. Its not a perfect result, but thats ok.I must search for the right height and the wideness and than i can mount the outer stuff where the suspension will be mounted.Christian
capri-schorsch
Today the bmw stands for the first time onto his feets. I only made it fit with my eyes, there was no measurements made so far.But it looks good,i think.Have to check pics for better infos about the rims in the fenders. The interior is getting a bit further. The tunnel for the propeller shaft was made and also the firewall from driver to the engine is now installed. Some reinforcements to the bottom must be made, but thats not a big challenge. Thanks for watching!Christian
