shood23
Ferrari F138 2013 Fujimi 1/20 This is something that was brought for me by my lovely wife for my birthday earlier this month, I have a thing for any Ferrari F1 so this is right up my steet and as i dont do one that often i thought i would do a full wip on this so here goes. This is a really well thought out kit, maybe a little fiddly in places, but overall good. The main body is moulded in a very shiny piece of red plastic but its all going to get a once over with wet and dry so doesnt bother me The decals are good, i've never had a problem with fujimi decals before so lets hope that streak continues One of the good things also is that they come with a kind of do it yourself markings of white decal or it give you the option to do the white marking entirly yourself as it comes with just the sponsor decal also (if you understand wht i mean then we are messed up together) it also comes with a steering wheel decal The wheels dont look great but if the airbrush i just aquired works out to be as good as people say then i will redo them with some more realistic paint As you can see i have already made a start by sticking the radiator ducts on the side of the body, i really dont understand why they make these cars like this, also i stuck on the rollover hoop I also started the nose cone, like with the body it came in 4 or 5 different parts that left a nasty seem line running all around the edge, it was filled with super glue and sanded back, just need to go over it with a finer grade to smooth it off before painting Heres a dry fit of the body parts, it comes with 5 pieces and also the side pods are rather annoying to get around the bottom of the radiator ducts but when you get it rite it all clicks in to place I am really looking forward to this car as it is going to be done so that the engine cover is removable and there maybe a small amount of engine detail done but it will be hard due to the fact that there is not really any good photos for the previous seasons f1 cars engines about out there i should get around to priming most parts over the weekend then hopfully get some colour on it next week im going to use tamiya ts 85 which is a mica red colour as looking at this car and the f2012 this one is a bit darker and very close to there 2009 car and ts85 was make for the tamiya f60 (2009) so its a good place to start Thanks for looking and any comments/critisism/advice are welcome cheers Shaun

gasdriverca
Good start so far buddy, the white decals that are the same shape as the 'Scuderia Ferrari' decal that goes on the engine cover is to go under the 'Scuderia Ferrari' decal so you don't get the red paint bleeding through. shood23
Thanks for thw comments and jake my build of the f2012 is in the rfi section somewhere all be it that it was done a year ago so isnt up to the same standard that im at now and gasdriverca those white decals can be used under but i dont use them as i have never had a problem with fujimi decals even after clear coating. Right on to where i am now and sorry i havent posted more as i am quite far in to this now anyway here goes parts have been primed and had there first coat of red on lolli pop sticks are great my little ones have thousands and they always come in handy the main part of the body im quite pleased with the engine as all i have done is sprayed aluminium straight on to the plastic and it gives it a worn/ used look the radiator faces were sprayed with humbrol chrome right heres where it jumps abit now nose cone has been now been readied for decals so they were done which i just have to say that i wasnt really liking the look of the nose before i put the white decal on but after it sets it off now for the main body, again it has been readied for decals same as the nose cone with the decals i had a bit of a break from the car as it was all i was doing so i took te time to do the tyres instead i have roughed them up with a sand on the surface back to the car and the floor has been done that little grey bit is fully covered by the gearbox so i havent fully painted it and a quick mock up of where i am up to now main body needs a clear coat and i have brought some of the hiroboy polish and was to fully finish it off the exhausts have been done in titanium silver and need a little more work to finish them off anf the body needs as said a clear coat and polish also as i am going to display this with the engine cover off the radiator areas will have so gold foil (stolen from a rolos packet) added to them thanks for looking and as always any comments good or bad welcome cheers shaun

Jfinlay
This is looking lovely, a fellow creon user too maybe?I have a fancy for some of these Fujimi 20th scale kits, they seem to offer a lot of cars i would like to make, and from looking at the builds they do seem fairly similar to the Tamiya offerings as far as building goes. shood23
Haha yep but not me my little one has cf so needs them for meals and yeah they are very well thought out most of the time there are a few with a couple of silly ways putting bit together but overall good for the price
shood23
Haven't updated this one for a while firstly because not alot has changed and second my seen a build has taken a lot of my time right If i remember correctly i messed up one of the endplates so this is where i am at today i taped 2 peices of .75mm plasticard together and used masking tape to use as a template to draw around the one remaining endplate as now i have the option to change it a little so it will now be more of a spa spec setup from last year, all i need to do now is cut them and round the edges abit cheers for looking, shaun

Hugh Jampton
Shaun, looking really good! Great work on the rear wing and I love what you did on the tires, what sand did you use and how did you bind it? I tried using some warmammer gravel mixed in with black paint and gave it a coat of mat varnish after but I think the marbling effect was to big, see below Regards John
F1 Insider
I don't think he actually used sand (I may be wrong) but in my experience i just sand the surface with my dremmel which (more luck than judgement) gives you a 'to scale' wear effect. Hugh Jampton
I must be far to heavy handed then or have a industrial dremmel. I gave that a try about a month or so ago and got an uneven finish, the grooves don't help. Will try again. Cheers
shood23
F1 insider you are correct it was done using a half inch wide sanding wheel around the whole top surface, but fujimi tyres do tend to ball up a lotvso a little sanding on a flat surface after and there was no actual sand used at all
F1 Insider
I must be far to heavy handed then or have a industrial dremmel. I gave that a try about a month or so ago and got an uneven finish, the grooves don't help. Will try again. Cheers It is a delicate act. I just want that worn in look as opposed to 'race used' so i literally just skim the tyre and then use a dry sheet of wet and dry just to clean up the surface.
