Heraldcoupe
For a flat finish over final paint and decals, I use Johnsons' Klear (the original type) with Tamiya Flat base. I don't get any of frosting some users complain about, but I do get spots of solid white showing as the finish dries. Any advice on why this is happening, and any way to prevent it? I've tried minimising the amount of flat base, various dilutions, as well as substitutes for the Klear, always with the same problem. Cheers, Bill. stevehnz
One thing I found when using the flat base was that it tended to become fairly thick over time & I used Tamiya acrylic thinners to thin it to a nice runny consistency. I've not had the sort of troubles you describe after doing this. Steve. Edited January 4, 2014 by stevehnz
Jetblast
Most problems seem to be in the mixing - mix it thoroughly & then do it again.... I've also noticed in the past that it can harden around the neck of the jar & that small pieces fall into the jar while unscrewing the lid - temporarily decanting into a larger container will show these lumps up more easily for removal / filtering / mixing & wiping the neck of the jar & the top of the lid before storing it away seems to help prevent it. Heraldcoupe
I've used this from several different jars, mixed it well (or so I thought) and always encountered the same problem. I now have some diluted with IPA & pre-mixed with Klear, it sprays beautifully though the airbrush, but it does tend to clog the nozzle after a minute or so spraying, in addition to the spotting. I'm going to experiment with some flow enhancer/retarder, I'll also try filtering the mix before use - not necessarily in that order, Cheers, Bill. Bordfunker
Try increasing the volume of thinner as I had similar issues a few years back and a combination of more thinner and more thorough mixing cured it. Karl
