somnas
Hi there! This is my first armor build and my second build overall. I started with this Academy 9040 kit because I needed some time off the Lancaster I'm also building. That one I'm building as a gift for my dad and this one will be a gift to a friend of mine who served on one of these during his military service. Here is the boxart The kit just flies together and I haven't taken many pictures so far but today I needed to fabricate some handles so I thought it would be a good time to start. There's two handles on the rear hatch and one of them broke when being removed from the sprue so I made two new ones by using a pair of nails which happened to have the same diameter. Just heat the needles and let them cool down by them selves, then you can easily bend them. Then when they've got the right shape, heat them again and drop them in some cool water and they will become hard again. This is how it came out, it works for me. I think I will paint the wheels soon, that will result in some new pictures I think. Cheers, Erik Edited December 17, 2013 by somnas

snapper_city
Looking good so far. I have been doing something similar for the grab handles on my Centurion recently.

somnas
The CV90 has ended up in the shadows of the Lancaster I'm working on, however I have been gluing some parts here and there on it while I'm for example waiting for the paint to dry on the Lanc. Here's where I'm at at the moment, with the Lanc in the shadows for once: The fit of this kit is excellent so far, highly recommended to anyone wanting one of these. Have a nice weekend!/Erik
heloman1
If I may offer some advice re the pins you have used to make new grab handles. I think you have used dressmaking pins, which are quite hard and you have annealed them so you could bend them. Try instead soft florists wire or soft brass wire. Also you might like to make a former out of plastic-card so you get them all the same. Colin
somnas
That's right Colin and thanks for the advice. The handles aren't glued in place yet so I would have the possibility to make new ones in a more suited material, I just used what I had at hand when I broke the supplied parts. At the same I have a deadline for this one (friends birthday) so I think I won't have time to redo them on this build but it's good to know for the future. /Erik
snapper_city
I'm always picking up bits & pieces that could be useful for scratch building. Even if the wife says it's rubbish it will have a use one day.

somnas
I'm having some troubles with the J28-build so I've made some progress on the CV instead. Just lifted the tape and saw the light color for the first time in about a month.
