bobster
Hi All, I'm keen to do a second model in this group build and acquired an Airfix 190D for 3.99 from the LMS. I'm going to keep the Monogram Typhoon for the D-Day GB and the Stirling for the Bomber Command GB! Is this kit OK to join the GB? EPL10548 by arrjaytee, on Flickr Cheers, Rob. Col.
It certainly looks a qualifier Rob. Old enough and replaced by the Tamiya kit to name but one. Fire away fella
Enzo the Magnificent
I built this kit around 1980! And thoroughly enjoyed it... It will be good to see it built again.
bobster
Time to crack on with this one, so building OOTB in the tradition of such a kit: FW-190 fuselage by arrjaytee, on Flickr Get the wings attatched: FW-190 Fuselage and Wings by arrjaytee, on Flickr and finally the tailplanes fitted: FW-190 by arrjaytee, on Flickr And it looks like an FW190! Now to prepare it for painting. I have some of the Humbrol RLM colours for this one in acrylic as there were no enamel equivilents at the rack in the LMS. Does anyone know how they brush paint? Or is airbrushing the best way to go (I have never attempted German camo with an airbrush before). I'm using this as a bit of a Guinea pig as I have my eye on some Eduard WW2 German planes. Peter Lloyd
Airbrushes and Luftwaffe paint schemes go hand in hand. Most -Ds seem to have been a patchwork of colours, thanks to decentralised manufacturing, so you can really have some fun.
bobster
I have cracked on with this, with the enthusiasm of my first foray of building kits way back when, in order to meet the GB deadline. I'm doing the stripy one, so that is the next job to do. I was going to mask the red/white striping underneath, but I've decided to use the kit transfers. I brush painted using the new RLM Humbrol acrylics - No's 247, 252 and 253. I picked these after looking at an Eduard instruction sheet for their 1/48 kit of the same plane. Hopefully it looks OK ( a bit of touching up needed/fit the guns/pitot tube I snapped off!). Rob FW190 painted by arrjaytee, on Flickr
bobster
The red is now painted. I should have put a really thin coat on and it would have looked a bit less vivid. Once I apply a matt varnish coat, it will hopefully tone down a bit. FW190 red painted by arrjaytee, on Flickr

bobster
I have decalled the underneath now and it came out much better than I thought it might. Just applying the rest of the decals and the prop, undercarriage and canopy need sorting. Rob.
