Jonners
Here's one that's unashamedly a rather contrived scene - the reason for which in a sec. The primary subject is obviously the well-known warbird 'Ferocious Frankie', operated by the OFMC at Duxford. I've posted it because it was drawn with more use of HB/2B pencils than the Mosquito and Spitfire previously posted, so there's more contrast in the primary subject (a discussion point highlighted in the Mossie thread). There was also a degree of experimentation, such as the contrails from the higher-flying bombers. The general idea for the scene was to portray the fighters escorting bombers returning from a raid - drop tanks gone, slightly broken-up bomber formations and a smoking straggler. Righto, so why the contrivance? Well, it was a commission from a work colleague, who wanted to give it as a gift to a friend. This friend is a pilot, is called Frank, can apparently be rather feisty at times and loves the P-51. My colleague had seen this Mustang while attending Helitech at Duxford and the idea was born!
