goose
1 did the F-4 C/D carry the SSU-23A gun pod ? im asking as the Hase weapon set II shows a E with one and i thought this already had an internal gun? my thoughts were C/D SSU-23A on centre pylon napalm on other pylon and a ter with bombs on the other. then possibly on the E a MER on center full of bombs then not sure what else. any ideas people? Rhino
The F-4C/D did carry the SUU-16A and SUU-23A. I believe the SUU-16 was used in Vietnam with the SUU-23 coming into use later in the conflict. Chico the Gunfighter, an F-4E in Vietnam carried a pair of gunpods on the outer wings with 2 Cluster bombs on each inner wing pylon, plus a centreline fuel tank, so the choice of armament is endless. Michigan ANG uploaded an airshow load of 5 SUU-23 pods, though I'm not aware of it flying. If you put a MER on the centreline, with say 6 500lb bombs, then 2 TERs on the inner wings with 3 500lb bombs each wing, and either fuel tanks or more TERS on the outer pylons. Heavy but do able. Good luck. Ted
Don McIntyre
Short answer is yes, this one was carried on an overall ADC Gray aircraft sometime in the late-80s, IIRC.
