Enzo the Magnificent
Here's a thread for you to post your previous obsolete builds. We've all got one or two somewhere... So here's mine. It's the Revell 1/48 Bf109G which had lain in The Stash for more than 30 years. Edited September 22, 2013 by Enzo Matrix

Jessica
Obsolete kits are something if a favourite of mine. I enjoy peoples' reactions when they encounter these and ask me which kit they are. Ghostbase
Most recent release of the ancient (1954?) Revell 1/113 Boeing B-47B Stratojet, was in a sale at Modelzone:- which made up into this golden oldie: Yes, lots of faults and mistakes ... and the most fun build I have had for a long time Felt like I was 10 again! AndyC
Just thought of another! The Monogram F-14 - officially the worst kit in the world (IMHO) - obsolete due to Hasegawa/HB kits
Deanflyer
More than thirty years old or superceded by newer kits, you say? These should count then... Matchbox 109: Matchbox Tiger Moth: Airfix P-51D: Revell Stuka: Hasegawa Starfighter: Airfix Hurricane: AMT Enterprise: Revell Triplane: All seen before, but a good excuse to dust them off again... Smiffy
Ohh go on then. How about some old builds of obsolete kits?. These 2 are the oldest built models that I still have, being done around 1984 ish (when I would have been 13 yrs old). The Airfix F-15A and the Heller BF-109E, both in 72nd scale. Hand painted with good old Humbrol enamels. I used a technical pencil to do the panel lines on the Eagle. Soon after, I discovered Otaki and Monogram 48th scale kits and built a whole load of them. Please excuse the roughness of the following few pics and models. These are just some quick and dirty shots (quite literally, as the models could do with a decent cleaning ) of some very old stuff. This is the Otakli Hellcat, built in 85 and again hand painted with Humbrol's. I seem to have lost the antenna and the decals have yellowed quite badly on this one. Monogram 48th Devastator. Also from 1985 and painted with hairy sticks. Monogram 48th Harrier AV-8B. Date on this is 86. I couldn't afford aftermarket stuff on my paper round money, back then, so the RBF tags are just painted paper strips. Hasegawa 1/32nd Spitfire VB. This is from 87. Using the Spitfire V Manual for reference, I used fuse wire to add the cabling in the cockpit and the brake lines and made belts from masking tape, with wire buckles. I read in "Spitfire at War", that some of the tropical VB's had their cannons removed and had wooden bungs stuffed in the empty stubs, so I decided to replicate it, using cut down cocktail sticks(back then, I had no idea if it was accurate for this aircraft, but it sounded like a really cool idea ). Once again, hand painted Humbrol enamels and possibly the first aircraft I used oils on for weathering. I was going for a sun bleached, scuffed and chipped effect, rather than covered in dirt. Those are just a few of the oldies that I still have kicking around. Like I say, they are a bit rough, but I'm loathed to bin any of them. I also have the classic "Dooleybird", which I did for the Matchbox Group Build,a couple of years back. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. It went together without a hitch and the decals were superb, despite their age.

vppelt68
Yes, those models are beautiful - keep them coming! Now for something on a completely different level of kit building skills... my Airfix Spitfire V something, an obsolete kit that I just built very quickly, for fun, and it was worth every euro-cent spent :-) I had to rush this in front of my GB Bristols, that I can now finally start, as I noticed a few days ago that today (Sept 28) I´ve been a Britmodeller member for 1 year and that I had made 99 posts. I then decided my 100th post must have a photo of a built kit and what´s more appropriate here at Britmodeller than the Spitfire!? So here´s the sore to your eyes, an old skool Airfix Spitfire with imaginative colour and markings, Vc barrel stumps fitted to a Vb wing, and all, flying over some island in the Mediterranean :-) Regards, V-P
