MichaelSatin
Well, due to a bribe by my beautiful and intelligent wife to get me to clean up my office, I am now the proud owner of two Kinetic 1/48 Kfir kits! As can be seen by the photo below, I've been waiting, and preparing, a long time for this kit: I've been good and haven't started it yet, but this seems like a great time to do it! I'll be doing a Kfir C2, #874 of 101 Squadron, the only Kfir to get an air-to-air kill (a Syrian MiG-21 in 1979). If I can actually follow through with the overall plan, the Syrian MiG-21 may get done during the upcoming MiG-21 build! Let's see how this one goes... MichaelSatin
OK, small update. I've basically finished the cockpit. The seat and aft area are only set in for these shots, not glued yet: The seat harness is from an old Eduard update set for the Heller Mirage, which is now (since the Eduard kit) surplus to requirement. Is it accurate for the Kfir? Eh. But it looks the part. Also, I hate painting the yellow/black pull rings. I'm afraid that shows. Still, nice kit so far! snapper_city
I am currently building the same kit and finding it a joy to build. Really nice kit. The pit is looking good.
MichaelSatin
Well, fuselage and wings together: The fuselage halves fit pretty well. The intakes, of course, require a little pushing and shoving, but not much. The wing/fuselage joint is OK, though there are some problems underneath fore and aft. Tricky to fix with the detail there, we'll see how that goes. The nose has a bit of a bulge and a large gap right in front of the seam between it and the fuselage, but a look at the references shows it should actually be there, nice touch Kinetic! The separate scoops that go are top and bottom have the placement pins as part of the sprue attachment. I filed mine off accidentally and am having no problem placing them, but you might want to be forewarned if you're building the kit. So far, a nice kit. Best Kfir I've seen yet! MichaelSatin
Good Lord, look at the time! Can I get this one done before the deadline? We'll see... Anyway, got it pre-shaded: I'm also trying to get an Eduard Hellcat done for the FAA GB. We're used to thinking (or I am) that modern jet fighters are bigger than their WWII piston engined counterparts. Well, maybe not so much: Just an interesting comparison. I've got a couple of days off, let's see what I can do. Michael

MichaelSatin
Thanks Vulcanicity! The question is whether I'll get done in time. I'm now remembering why I started concentrating on WWI and WWII aircraft: STENCILS! Man, this plane has a ton of them, it's taking me forever! Still, I've got both sides and the top done and the bottom about half done, so we'll see... Michael
MichaelSatin
Well, one week to go. I can't generally get any modeling done during the week, so the question is: If I'm this far, can I get it done in two days? We shall see... Enzo the Magnificent
so the question is: If I'm this far, can I get it done in two days? I reckon so! That looks excellent!
Vulcanicity
I'm not as far as you, and I'm still aiming for that deadline! Keep it up that man! Edited October 19, 2013 by Vulcanicity
MichaelSatin
And I made it again. This time with a whole day to spare! Kinetic 1/48 Kfir C2 #874, 101 Sqn., Israeli Air Force, late 1970s - early '80s. The only Kfir to score an air to air kill, against a Syrian MiG-21 on June 27, 1979. This one was a lot of fun, a very good kit. The only real issues I can recall are: 1. Watch out for the separate intakes on the top and bottom, they have pins on the bottom which are actually locating pins. Don't cut them off accidentally (like I did). 2. Instructions can be kind of vague about parts placement, especially with the landing gear which is rather fiddly. A good reference is recommended. 3. I made a mistake and used grays from two different companies (light ghost from MM and dark ghost from AM). Result: almost no contrast. Again, my mistake. More pics in the gallery. Now if only I can stick to my resolution and build an Eduard MiG-21MF in Syrian markings for the MiG-21 STGB next year. We'll see... I've sure enjoyed this one, thanks for the great GB!! Enzo the Magnificent
The only Kfir to score an air to air kill, against a Syrian MiG-21 on June 27, 1979. What a splendid result! Will you be building this aircraft's victim in the Mig-21 STGB?
Arniec
Nice looking Kfir. I like it a lot!!! Cheers,
Vulcanicity
That's an excellent Kfir, well done for pulling out the stops and getting it done in time. I'm looking forward to seeing the unfortunate Mig too!
MichaelSatin
Thanks everyone! Yes, I plan to build a Syrian MiG-21MF for the STGB. I think it's about the right time frame but don't know which specific one the Kfir shot down, so it'll be close but not quite the right one. Mine will be in 1/72. After seeing your superb build, it has inspired me to build this Kfir in parallel with the Mig.
