sunray
Hi folks. Here is my effort of an Airfix Mosquito Mk XVIII. I used a clear canopy from Falcon, part of a photo etch set from Airwaves and also a bit of scratch building for the cockpit and guns (I lost the original guns which now live somewhere in my shed). Anyway here are the photos. Cheers Ian Edited August 30, 2013 by sunray

sunray
Thanks for the good reception guy. Yes Kev I did do a bit of re-scribing, not my favourite pastime. Also I can recommend the vac canopy from Falcon. This was my first attempt and I found it a lot easier to fit than the original. TCinLA
Nice work but you need to get better control of the airbrush. You're shooting at too high a pressure and wikthout a fine enough tip. If you don't have a pressure regulator you need to get one. Shoot at 13-15 psi, thin your paint 50-50, and use a fine tip. The result will make your paint work the equal of your construction work, which is excellent.
HL-10
You've done a lovely job on that old kit! I do like the Molins gun armed Mosquito.

Spitfire31
Really nice build of that venerable but basically very sound kit! And the Falcon canopy works wonders for the overall impression. On the subject of general impression, though, British camouflage is better represented being masked rather than freehand sprayed. On your otherwise excellent model the camo demarcations are uncharacteristically diffuse – just compare it with any WWII era photos of the real thing.Good build!Kind regards, Joachim

Miggers
Nice work but you need to get better control of the airbrush. You're shooting at too high a pressure and wikthout a fine enough tip. If you don't have a pressure regulator you need to get one. Shoot at 13-15 psi, thin your paint 50-50, and use a fine tip. The result will make your paint work the equal of your construction work, which is excellent. What TC said, other than that she's spot on. My a/brush is a Badger single action on a small compressor. What I do is paint a test piece in the base colour of the cammo(in your case that would be grey). Then once that has gone off,mix up and get ready to apply the other(in your case green)colour I tend to close the needle right down, set the pressure(Do that whilst holding the air valve down) and then slowly open the needle until the paint starts to "tint" the surface(of the test piece)then tweak the pressure and paint needle about until I'm getting a nice flow and steady ,light coverage (remember, less is more with an a/brush). To touch on what Joachim has said, get as many pictures of your subject as you can and compare as many references as possible, remember this: "Paint what you see,not what you think you see". I still think the old Airfix Mossie builds into a really nice kit and you've amply demonstrated that here Ian, (the undercart still a pig to fit?)that Falcon canopy works really well, miles better than the kit milkbottle. BTW,how the hell did you get those white rings on the spinners so tight? Edited August 31, 2013 by Miggers
wagoneer
Oh cool! My son is building the same, he'll be inspired to see your build and I'm going to get him the Falcon canopy you've used too. He's had real trouble with the undercarriage (being a bit heavy handed trimming parts off the sprue mostly) but it's coming along.

I got the Falcon canopy from Hannants (£12.50 approx). The good news is it isn't just one canopy, its quite a few including Spitfires, Hurricanes, Beaufighters, etc. Here is the one I got. I hopes this helps. Cheers Ian
georgeusa
I think you did a fine job on this old kit. Very nice work in such a small scale. I really enjoy this Mossie and this version. Have been thinking about doing a similar version in 1/48. Hope mine turns out as nice as yours.

stevehnz
Nice mossie indeed & gosh, haven't we got the photos to prove it. Straight up though, that would have to be as good an Airfix Mossie as I have seen, nice. Steve. Edited September 1, 2013 by stevehnz
