albertz
Hello Chaps, This is my attempt at an F84F Thunderstreak from the Turkish Air Force 182 Sqn (filo), In one of the few air to air engagements involving a thunderstreak a flight of four aircraft ( S/No's 185, 835, 878 & 790 ) from 182 filo engaged an iraqi Il28 beagle ( S/No 6540 ) in turkish airspace and shot it down, the kill according to some sources is credited to pilot Lt Nurettin Gull flying 790, a picture of the aircrew after the engagement can be seen below ( its unclear which one Lt Gull is ). The kit is an Italeri kit supplemented with Aires resin cockpit & undercarriage sets, Xtradecals & painted with Alclad2, first time ive used Alclad and it hasnt had the burnished finish i expected, i suspect thats down to the gloss black base coat not being 'gloss' enough, more practice needed! The serial numbers were cobbled together from various decals left over from other kits, one area i did enjoy was attempting heat discolouration, thanks to alclad 'Hotmetal Blue' & 'Jet Exhaust' and a 0.15 needle on my airbrush, after a bit of practice i decided less is more! Comments, hints & criticisms welcome!
Silver Fox
Nice work, and an unusual scheme. Did the Aires cockpit set fit?
albertz
Did the Aires cockpit set fit? Not really, i think it was designed for another manufacturer, i had to butcher it to get it in!

Silver Fox
Not really, i think it was designed for another manufacturer, i had to butcher it to get it in! I had a feeling that would be the answer. Beautiful work I couldn't see any sign of the butchering.

TCinLA
Actually, the silver finish you got looks more like what an NMF airplane on operations looks like. There are very very few high-polish NMF airplanes, due to the effect of sunlight on aluminum. I knew a guy once who had a polished aluminum T-6 and he must have put in 10 polishing hours per flying hour. Not what you're going to get on an operational unit. So you've got a better final result than you expected. Edited August 11, 2013 by TCinLA

rafrobbo
Really nice model you made there, like the heat effect on the exhaust area. Will have to try out some of that blue paint too.
